    You Donor Roll First Name Surname Email Ad Astra Academy UCD s honours scholarship programme Established in 2011 the Ad Astra Academy is designed to foster excellence and attract and develop the best students in Ireland The term Ad Astra To the Stars is part of UCD s motto and symbolises the University s quest for excellence There are two opportunities for eligible students to join the UCD Ad Astra Academy community on acceptance of a place on a UCD undergraduate programme or based on exceptional performance during their studies The Ad Astra Academy has three strands Ad Astra Academic Scholars students attaining six higher level A1 grades in a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate Ad Astra Elite Athlete Scholars students with proven performance at national level with clear potential at international and Olympian level Ad Astra Performing Arts Scholars high potential performing arts students identified by audition and interview These exceptional students receive individual support to ensure that they can fulfill their potential at UCD for instance a financial bursary subsidised on campus accommodation individual academic mentoring peer support team building activities access to specialist facilities and expertise and to a network of distinguished alumni In 2013 25

    Email Access Lifelong Learning Scholarships UCD aims to become Ireland s most diverse and inclusive university Through UCD Access Lifelong Learning students from a variety of backgrounds including mature students school leavers from socio economically disadvantaged backgrounds and those with a disability are encouraged to progress and succeed at UCD Last year UCD Alumni generously donated 84 000 to support Access Lifelong Learning providing funds for both student scholarships and the very valuable outreach initiatives in linked schools For many students knowing they will have a scholarship can be the tipping point between accepting a place at UCD and not attending university at all Your Philanthropic Support Donors provide students with much needed financial support so that they can participate fully in college life A gift of 1 000 means a student can focus on their studies rather than depend on a part time job A scholarship of 500 means a student can buy a laptop which is a compulsory requirement for some UCD courses Enables Access Lifelong Learning to expand its outreach programme which encourages and supports students from linked schools from non traditional backgrounds in the application process for UCD Achievements 2013 328 HEAR and DARE students began their courses at UCD This represented a 33 increase in the number of Access students entering UCD compared to the previous year The Disability Access Route DARE and Higher Education Route to Education HEAR are admissions schemes to promote equity to higher education for school leavers with either a disability or who have experienced socio economic disadvantage UCD Access and Lifelong Learning provides bursaries to over 500 students in UCD Bursaries range in value from 500 1 000 and are given to the student for each year of their degree A new approach to supporting students with specific learning difficulties

    International Conference on Responsible use of Antibiotics in Animals Ana s doctoral studies will continue to investigate her key areas of interest with the support of the Veterinary Council of Ireland and UCD School of Veterinary Medicine Ana is supervised by Dr Nola Leonard Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Microbiology in the School of Agriculture Food Science and Veterinary Medicine UCD The Veterinary Council of Ireland regulates and manages the practice of veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing in the State in the public interest The Veterinary Council Education Trust Fund was established in 1977 as the result of an anonymous donation The funds are to be used in perpetuity for the promotion and encouragement of education in veterinary science Suzanne Dowlin The Randl L Shure Oncology Nursing Scholarship 2015 MSc Palliative Care Undertaking the M Sc Palliative Care was an extremely rewarding experience for me I feel that I gained extensive knowledge from the modules in this course and that I have been able to apply this to my clinical area Attending UCD was a very positive experience for me not only for the academic benefits but also for the people I met and the friendships I made during this course Without the sponsorship of the Randl L Shure Scholarship it would have been very difficult for me to undertake this course I sincerely feel that this course has not only been of great benefit to me but also to the patients and staff I encounter in my work Read More I would like to express my profound gratitude to the benefactors of the Randl L Shure Oncology Nursing Scholarship This scholarship has enabled me to undertake and successfully complete my Masters in Science M Sc in Palliative Care in the academic year 2013 2014 It was always my ambition to undertake my Masters in palliative care and I was thrilled when I was successful in my application for the Randl L Shure Scholarship The subject of early referrals to palliative care has always been of significant interest to me and this masters was a great opportunity to explore this subject in depth By researching this topic through lectures and in my dissertation I have realised the many benefits of early referrals to palliative care and can consider the barriers that often prevent this from happening I now feel more empowered explaining to patients why they have been referred to our service I also feel I have gained the knowledge to communicate the benefits to others of such early referrals It is my hope that early access to palliative care will increase giving the care team a chance to foster relationships with patients who have a life limiting illness I will continue to educate hospital staff on the benefits and ethos of early palliative care in the hopes that more patients can access and benefit from this worthwhile service Shane O Donnell MSD Ad Astra Scholarship in the Inequities in Outcomes of Diabetes Care Education and lifestyle intervention has been recognised
