    and Engagement Conference New Ways of War Insurgencies Small Wars and the Past and Future of Conflict Internships Media Newsletter Orientation Links Contact UCD Homepage Welcome To CIAS Click here to watch our introductory movie Prospective Students President Clinton addresses the Institute Sept 2010 New Media and New Conflicts Strategy and Approaches for the 21st Century 23rd 25th June 215 UCD Clinton Institute The rapid change in media from traditional to new in the 21st century in speed scope and impact can be daunting for the practitioners whether in government business or an NGO So is the complexity of military political and social conflicts inside countries between them and across them The aim of this course is to develop skills both as an observer gathering and critiquing valuable information from the web of 21st century media and as a participant seeking to engage with the influence groups in political economics and cultural environments This three day programme offers an intensive examination of media and politics to develop a cutting edge approach to publication and engagement The seminar will interrogate the changing nature of conflict political economic and ideological as well as military to evaluate engagement and intervention in the contexts of geopolitics rights governance and humanitarian action Specific case studies will include Iran Syria and the wider Middle East as well as those suggested by participants Using a developing base of knowledge participants will consider the use of sources and the techniques in writing to produce analysis with immediacy for both a general audience and specialists in their areas of concern They will work with the latest developments in social media as observers and participants to make the most of platforms and networks They will be introduced to multi media coverage and presentation for example through audio visual sources and

    city s North Side Cheap airlines to Dublin include Aer Lingus and Ryanair though many other airlines offer good deals to Dublin or some of the other airports in Ireland Aircoach The easiest and quickest ways to get from Dublin airport to UCD is by Aircoach this blue shuttle bus picks passengers up from outside the arrivals terminal and stops at all major hotels en route from the airport to south of the city centre It stops outside the Burlington Hotel Stillorgan Park Hotel and the Radisson Hotel This bus also stops outside on the opposite side of the motorway from University College Dublin This service departs Dublin airport every 10 minutes from 6am to 8pm and every 20 minutes from 8pm to 11pm The Aircoach fare costs 8 single and 16 return Taxis from Dublin Airport to the City Centre and to UCD A taxi from the airport to the city centre costs approximately 40 and a further 10 15 from the city centre to UCD Belfield Taxi drivers may add extra charges for each passenger and for luggage There are usually an adequate number of taxis in operation in the city centre at any given time It is possible to hail a taxi from the street but convenient taxi ranks are located outside Wynn s Hotel on Middle Abbey Street and opposite the Bank of Ireland on Dame Street Ferry Regular scheduled ferry serivces operate between the UK and Ireland There are two ferry terminals in Dublin Dublin Port is near the city centre and Dun Laoghaire is approximately two miles from UCD Irish Ferries Tel 353 0 1 661 0511 Email info irishferries ie Website www irishferries ie Stena Line Tel 353 0 1 204 7700 Email info ie stenaline com Website www stenaline com From the
