  • Gavin Coll
    musicals and school choirs from a young age Gavin went on to become the bass leader of Blackrock College s Leman and Libermann senior choirs In 2012 Gavin lead the Blackrock College Libermann choir to finish 2nd place in the All Island School Choir competition which was broadcast live on RTÉ shortly followed by winning two choral competitions at the annual Wesley Intrschools Feis As a soloist Gavin has performed numerous times in the National Concert Hall at the annual Blackrock College Leman Concert and will soon return to Blackrock to accompany the Past Pupils Choir at the next Leman Concert Upon graduation Gavin was awarded the Fr Jarlath Dowling Performing Arts Medal from Blackrock College for his contribution to music and the arts in Blackrock College Gavin will soon commence vocal training lessons with international vocalist Emmanuel Lawlor and is looking forward to his first year with the UCD Choral Scholars Other Bass Eoin Falconer Year 3rd Year Computer Science about Eoin Jimmy Billings Year 3rd Year Sociology Information Studies about Jimmy Gavin Coll Year 1st Year Computer Science about Gavin Barry Mulvey Year 2nd Year Engineering about Barry Eóin Scanlon Year 1st Year HDip Computer Science Conversion about

    people with whom I am still friends with today I am grateful to Des for introducing me to the beautiful and sometimes very challenging music that we rehearsed and performed every Sunday in the UCD Church in Belfield Memories that still stand out to this day include singing to the late Pope John Paul II at St Peter s Basilica in Rome recording a CD together Road of Passage and performing Live at the UCD Fashion Show in the Point Theatre Looking back my time with the Scholars was something of a pivotal time for me as it was from here that I decided to pursue a career in performance Since leaving I completed a Masters in Performance in the DIT Conservatory of Music whilst becoming Opera Theatre Companys OTC Young Associate Artist I m now an opera singer based mostly in the UK working regularly at the Glyndebourne Festival alongside tours of Ireland and the UK and a six week stint in Tokyo amongst other engagements Looking back the training and experience I received in the Choral Scholars provided me with many of the necessary tools that are so important to me as a performer today Check out my

    the size and potential of UCD it was brilliant news when Des announced to me one wet day that he was going to start up the Choral Scholars With Des s great drive behind the whole thing he quickly got both the chaplaincy and various investors behind the project and before long we were singing everything from Byrd to West Indian folk songs I ll never forget that Calypso Christmas I loved performing as a member of UCD Choral Scholars and even now remember the great satisfaction got from managing to get through ever more demanding choral programmes with a group of people that were not only fellow choir members but became great friends the after parties were great fun too Nowadays I m lucky to be working full time in music Although I lived and sang abroad for a number of years I have come back to settle in Dublin Staying in one country means having your finger in a few music pies so while I work as a soloist with various orchestras and opera companies I also run a music agency www musicsolutionsonline com arrange music I was lucky enough to have Placido Domingo sing one of my
