    Aliaga Kelly and William Aliaga Kelly for the photographs Contribute to this entry or report an inaccuracy via email January 1937 Exhibition Exhibition of Modern Architecture Ireland and the New Architecture 1900 1940 Sean Rothery The Irish Times Thomas Kennedy John Gorman An exhibition including four hundred photographs of examples of modern architecture from all over the world is organised by the Architectural Graduates Association of the National University of Ireland Key figures in this include John O Gorman and T P Kennedy The exhibit had previously been shown in every major city in Great Britain In the exhibition flats are shown made charming with wide spaces well laid out grass plots and trees Schools that are practically open air and factories that in the photographs look like places of pleasure show to people who have had to adapt their lives to their buildings how they may adapt the buildings to the betterment of their lives The Irish Times 16th January 1937 Contribute to this entry or report an inaccuracy via email November 1936 Walter Gropius Visit Walter Gropius The AAI and was instrumental in bringing Walter Gropius 1883 1969 to Dublin where he gave a lecture at the Engineers Hall in Molesworth Street on 10 November 1936 The lecture was entitled The International Trend of Modern Architecture He also visited the School of Architecture University College during which as Mattie McDermott notes Frau Gropius a striking blonde apparently made a greater impression than the great man himself According to the magazine Ireland Today Gropius spoke mainly about his fears that as the new architecture became fashionable imitation would distort the truths and simplicity on which it was based and that the style was not based on an anti tradition obsession that sought to destroy all deeper national loyalties He
