  • Funding the Cost of Your Little One’s Big Occasion | Tullamore Credit Union Ltd.
the age of 13 in Ireland at present and a large percentage of these will celebrate these religious occasions in the coming years In Offaly alone there are an estimated 20 000 children in this age bracket The cost of paying for these days and all the bell and whistles around them has risen over the years and while we may not be seeing the extravagance of Celtic Tiger years parents wanting to give their little son or daughter a day to remember can often find themselves faced with hefty bills for their efforts What is more some parents will find themselves with both a Communion a Confirmation in one year There have been numerous surveys and reports conducted by various parties over the years trying to ascertain the average costs of these events with one survey estimating an average cost of 573 and another estimating 764 To give people a little clarity at Tullamore Credit Union we have looked at some estimated costs to show people how much it could cost to fund this day Communion Confirmation Costs Dress Suit Outfit 100 300 Meal Party Entertainment On the Day spend 150 500 Cloths for parents siblings 100 300 Total 350 1100 No matter what way you slice it most parents are looking at anywhere from 350 to 1100 to fund their son or daughters big day Latest statistics from the CSO show that the average disposable income for a person in Offaly is just 16 700 a year So when you consider all the other goods services costs etc that a person might have to pay for over the course of a year it s easy to see how fitting a Communion or Confirmation into the budget could sometimes be a struggle So how can people pay for this Our best advice is to start a savings plan in advance depending on when you start putting aside 5 or 10 a week could make a big difference when the time comes Shop around for everything there is so much competition in Ireland s food retail and hospitality sector at the moment which means that people can really cut costs just by looking at a variety of providers If you find you have a shortfall then access some credit but don t pay huge interest rates On the spot money lenders often increase their marketing activities around this time of year as they know people run into financially difficulty and are quick to take up credit to get them through However some of the interest rates charged by these lenders can be absolutely huge Talk to your Credit Union we are keen to lend and at Tullamore Credit Union we are used to members coming in at this time of year for a loan often to bridge the amount they have to spend with the amount the day will cost in total We are flexible and can work with people to ensure that they borrow the money they need at
