  • Minister Lynch refuses to meet ‘Save Our St. Joseph’s’ Community Hospital Campaigners – Thomas Pringle TD
the HSE on this matter The Minister said she was booked up for the rest of the Election campaign but cited responsibility of the status of community hospitals in Donegal as being with the HSE and suggested that the campaigners request a meeting with HSE management in Donegal to find out what plans if any exist for the long term future of St Joseph s Hospital In the Minister s correspondence to Deputy Pringle the Minister stated no political decision has taken place as any decision in relation to the long term future of St Joseph s Hospital is one for the HSE and they alone will make that decision Pringle states it s simply not good enough and while I have made a request to the HSE on behalf of the campaigners I am concerned the Minister has offloaded responsibility to a body her Department governs regardless of the fact that the General Election is in full swing My question is who made the original decision Who is the HSE accountable to when drastic decisions are made such as the downgrading of St Joseph s The communities affected by the potential closures or downgrading of community hospitals deserve answers and a strong commitment to the future of these services concludes Pringle ENDS Be Sociable Share home news ticker Previous Story Pringle Calls on Minister to provide additional funding to all Community Service Programmes in Donegal Next Story Carntullagh Slipway Shortlisted for Marine Development Programme 2016 Related Posts Look out for my General Election 2016 newsletter DONEGAL NOW Donegal TD reveals Minister Lynch will not meet with Save Our St Joseph s Campaign DONEGAL NOW Calls on Burton to provide additional funding for community services programmes About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co Donegal

  • Pringle Calls on Minister to provide additional funding to all Community Service Programmes in Donegal – Thomas Pringle TD
Minister Joan Burton seeking a firm commitment to provide additional funding to all CSPs in Donegal and not just on a case by case basis as the Minister has recently announced Community Service Programmes are vitally important to rural life in Donegal and have dealt with the isolation felt by vulnerable and elderly people in rural communities and have provided a buffer for many families throughout the recession providing jobs childcare facilities transport and social activities for the elderly While I welcome any increase in the minimum wage the Minister for Social Protection has only committed to funding CSPs on a case by case basis which will leave many without additional resources to pay increased wages Despite the numerous calls made on behalf of CSPs in Donegal the Minister has refused to engage further and for this reason I have written to her seeking a firm commitment to fund these vitally importance programmes I have also indicated to the Minister that it remains a priority to me that services are supported in Donegal throughout the economic recovery as many vulnerable people may not yet feel the benefits felt across the country I have also made the point that any benefits from minimum wage increases must be shared equally across the board including programmes which provide employment concludes Pringle ENDS Be Sociable Share home news ticker Previous Story Pringle Urges Minister Lynch to meet with Save Our St Joseph s Hospital Campaign Group Next Story Minister Lynch refuses to meet Save Our St Joseph s Community Hospital Campaigners Related Posts Look out for my General Election 2016 newsletter DONEGAL NOW Donegal TD reveals Minister Lynch will not meet with Save Our St Joseph s Campaign DONEGAL NOW Calls on Burton to provide additional funding for community services programmes About admin Contact

  • Pringle Urges Minister Lynch to meet with ‘Save Our St. Joseph’s Hospital’ Campaign Group – Thomas Pringle TD
private hospitals all over the state in order to try and keep waiting lists off the agenda for the election yet this only serves to highlight the Government s own recognition of its failure to deliver The crisis in waiting lists in Letterkenny General Hospital is a direct consequence of the reduction in its budget that has meant waiting lists have soared under Fine Gael Labour The continued lack of investment in LGH has led to beds closed and unfilled consultant posts across the hospital And now the recent announcements of the closure of community nursing units in Lifford Ramelton and Stranorlar to make way for a 120 bed unit in Letterkenny have caused panic and uncertainty across communities in Donegal The added confusion from Minister McHugh who could not confirm the future viability of the units has left many feeling very insecure about access to health in Donegal Over the next ten years we need at least 550 additional beds in community hospitals and nursing homes The closure of St Jospeh s Ramelton and Lifford hospitals will not help address an ageing population Instead it will cause hardship for the elderly and their communities all to make the private sector richer through the Public Private Partnership to build the new Letterkenny Nursing Unit We need to see an increase in the portion of health spending allocated to primary care to 9 This must be done alongside reinstating the rural practice allowance for GPs and employing physiotherapists occupational therapists and community nurses needed to provide community health services We also need to ensure adequate accommodation in primary care sites to facilitate these services For these reasons I am urging Minister Lynch with responsibility for Primary Care to meet with the Action Committee in an effort to seek a reversal of

  • Pringle accuses HSE of Abandoning Dunfanaghy Health Clinic and its Patients – Thomas Pringle TD
upgrade and to avail of facilities such as wheelchair access disability access and extra space to carry out its clinical functions Without these upgrades the standard of the clinic has been slipping despite a strong commitment from Dr Paul Stewart and the staff working there to keep services running for those who need them The HSE s response to requests to address the situation including my own up to now has been that they are prioritising more modern facilities in Creeslough and Falcarragh As Dunfanaghy is one of the old dispensing type health centres built in the 1950s they haven t bothered engaging with the service until the public meeting had been called At this late stage in response to the public outcry the HSE sent an engineer to assess the health centre It s clear from this what FG Labour have attempted to do in the five years they ve been in Government which is to centralise health services including future primary care centres as a cost saving exercise but at the expense of vulnerable residents across rural Ireland My concern is that if Dunfanaghy s health clinic closes how are people expected to travel the distances required to attend more modern health centres such as in Creeslough and Falcarragh What about elderly residents chronically ill patients and people who can t drive These are the disadvantages facing people in very rural areas and FG Labour have made these people worse off Over 500 people attended the meeting last night which is a sure sign of the anger in rural communities in Donegal The people of Dunfanaghy are determined to win this campaign concludes Pringle ENDS Be Sociable Share home news ticker Previous Story RTE s Project 500 see my election video Next Story Pringle Urges Minister Lynch to

  • Pringle Welcomes the start of 2016 General Election Campaign – Thomas Pringle TD
enshrine economic social and cultural rights into our constitution as well as people initiated referenda These referenda will start the process of changing the culture of our government placing the interests of the people first not corporate interests The next Dáil must implement rural friendly policies like broadband roll out prioritising remote areas rural friendly job creation in sectors like biomass alongside a moratorium on wind farming to protect communities We need to see a restoration of income supports and social welfare payments to combat fuel food and child poverty rates which have sky rocketed since FG Labour made drastic cuts to state services People are dealing with greater uncertainty over access to healthcare in Donegal We can address this by increasing incentives to retain medical staff in the county and by restoring GP supports as part of the development of a primary care model with universal healthcare a central component I want to see much more resources provided for elderly mental health services suicide prevention and all frontline services that were drastically cut by FG Labour Other big concerns for people include access to childcare and educational supports like SNAs and resource hours in schools greater disability access in public transport and the upgrading of road infrastructure to attract jobs to Donegal These are all issues I have continuously campaign for and will continue to address if re elected to the next Dáil Ireland needs to fight harder for our fair share of natural resources at the EU level in relation to fishing quotas We deserve a fairer share of our natural resources which could in turn create local jobs in Donegal It has been an honour to serve as an Independent TD for Donegal since 2011 and with the support of the people of Donegal I will be
