  • GOV SUBVENTION OF PRIVATE BUS COMPANIES FARCICAL – Thomas Pringle TD
Minister Paschal Donohoe the independent TD for Donegal highlighted the negative impact of the proposed privatisation of 10 of Bus Éireann routes The chairperson of the NTA in addressing the Joint Committee on Transport and Communications a number of months ago said the NTA would determine the routes schedules vehicle types standards fares and customer service requirements and that the contracted operator would have no say in deciding fares routes or frequencies He went on to say the branding would also be determined by the authority as well as the accessibility standards and emissions standards for pollutants and noise Where else can competitive tendering take place except on wages and the conditions of workers who will drive the buses on the routes chosen Unless a substantial subsidy is provided for them what will happen is that there will be a driving down of the terms and conditions of workers who provide services on the routes which would be a retrograde step The proposal is only to put out to tender 10 of routes Bus Éireann operates services across the country including on very unprofitable routes in rural areas on which services must be subsidised In selecting the 10 of routes to go out to tender the tendency will be to cherry pick routes that will be guaranteed to make profit for the private sector while being subsidised for it which will undermine the public service remit of Bus Éireann across the country stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story FINTRA BRIDGE MUST BE PRIORITY FOR WAW Next Story Closure of Antenatal Clinic in Dungloe Community Hospital Slammed Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co

  • FINTRA BRIDGE MUST BE PRIORITY FOR WAW – Thomas Pringle TD
to provide safe and efficient access for those visiting Slieve League on the Wild Atlantic Way Speaking to Minister Paschal Donohoe in the Dáil last week the independent TD stated There is a need for the roads infrastructure along the Wild Atlantic Way to be maintained and updated so as to ensure its integrity While Fáilte Ireland has provided significant funding for discovery points and attractions along the route it is important funding is also provided for the upgrade of the roads infrastructure particularly for the Fintra Bridge on the R263 in Donegal which is the only access route to the Slieve League cliffs in south west Donegal and is in need of major repair The specific improvement grants scheme has been severely curtailed The Wild Atlantic Way is a positive development and Donegal has had great success with it this year Tourism operators in the county report they have seen many new visitors and for that reason it is important to support the route s infrastructure While funding for the discovery points and attractions along the route is welcome and positive an avenue has to be found in the Department to target funding towards the maintenance of the roads infrastructure and particularly bridges on the route Closure of a bridge could have significant implications for the local community and tourism activities stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story PRINGLE PUSHES FOR EQUAL RECOGNITION OF MARINER CERTIFICATION TRAINING Next Story GOV SUBVENTION OF PRIVATE BUS COMPANIES FARCICAL Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co Donegal 074 97 41880 thomas pringle oir ie Latest News Look out for my General Election 2016 newsletter February 11

  • PRINGLE PUSHES FOR EQUAL RECOGNITION OF MARINER CERTIFICATION & TRAINING – Thomas Pringle TD
to the equal recognition of mariner certification and training but there are huge opportunities for Irish fishermen to seek alternative employment in offshore wind energy developments We have our own offshore renewable energy development plan published last year by the Department of Communications Energy and Natural Resources But there is a problem for fishermen in particular in availing of work in this industry where many from Donegal work in Germany and Britain on offshore wind energy developments but their qualifications in Ireland are not transferable abroad A new course could be developed to provide that equivalency as an add on rather than a standalone course It would also allow Irish workers to avail of work in the proposed large offshore wind energy developments in the Irish Sea which will have significant requirements for staff in construction and maintenance in the future We need to ensure that Irish people are in a position to avail of those It is important that the Marine Survey Office deal with this now to allow Irish workers and fishermen to avail of opportunities in the future There is also an issue regarding the provision of work boats to service the construction of offshore wind developments As I understand it vessels built in Ireland for work in Irish waters cannot work in other waters Similarly vessels operating in other European jurisdictions cannot come to Ireland to work without making substantial alterations and modifications This hampers Irish boat yards in being able to provide vessels that can work across Europe and also avail of offshore opportunities in Irish waters These are unnecessary problems which should be addressed and I m looking forward to discussing these issues with the Minister in finding ways to move forward stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story SOCIAL HOUSING STRATEGY TIMESCALE NOT

  • SOCIAL HOUSING STRATEGY TIMESCALE NOT ACHIEVEABLE – Thomas Pringle TD
unrealistic leaving its implementation being left open to be extended While I welcome the prospect of 35 000 new social housing units being created over the next 6 years I believe that certain goals the government has set for itself are unachievable to reach by 2020 which will ultimately lead to the failure of this strategy The formation of large scale Approved Housing Bodies AHBs and dealing with the transition of repossessed Buy To Let properties for example in itself would take a considerable time to achieve and I question the timescale set out in this regard in particular With regards to Donegal I believe the council should pursue the establishment of a housing association for the entire county whereby this would allow the council to access borrowing that would be off balance sheet and where they already have the staff and resources to scale up on delivering a housing programme and I ve been in contact with the County Manager in relation to this proposal Investing Public Private Partnerships PPPs and the government s continued over reliance on various rent assistance schemes to paper over the cracks of the housing crisis are very costly measures when the capital invested in these schemes could simply be used to build more social housing stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story RURAL AREAS NEED ACTION NOT MAPS PRINGLE Next Story PRINGLE PUSHES FOR EQUAL RECOGNITION OF MARINER CERTIFICATION TRAINING Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co Donegal 074 97 41880 thomas pringle oir ie Latest News Look out for my General Election 2016 newsletter February 11 2016 12 59 pm DONEGAL NOW Donegal TD reveals Minister

  • ‘RURAL AREAS NEED ACTION NOT MAPS,’ PRINGLE – Thomas Pringle TD
MAPS PRINGLE By admin Tweet Pin It Updated 25th November 2014 Thomas Pringle TD has reacted to yesterday s launch of the National Broadband Plan NBP maps as a farce that doesn t even provide a timeline for implementation While the government says the commercial telecoms industry intends to invest in delivering high speed broadband access to 1 6 million homes and businesses by the end of 2016 there are another 600 000 homes and 100 000 businesses in rural Ireland that will require direct State intervention to provide high speed broadband access but there s not even a timeline for how and when that might be achieved Time and time again I have raised the massive job creation opportunities in Donegal and across rural Ireland if the government invested in high speed fibre broadband I have most recently seen the impact lack of lack of broadband on Arranmore and the lost job opportunities there The people of rural Ireland are again being left behind What this government needs to realise is that time is passing and opportunities missed for the likes of Donegal what the people need is action not maps stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story Thomas reacts to the water charge changes Next Story SOCIAL HOUSING STRATEGY TIMESCALE NOT ACHIEVEABLE Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co Donegal 074 97 41880 thomas pringle oir ie Latest News Look out for my General Election 2016 newsletter February 11 2016 12 59 pm DONEGAL NOW Donegal TD reveals Minister Lynch will not meet with Save Our St Joseph s Campaign February 11 2016 11 24 am DONEGAL NOW Calls on Burton to

  • BEEF FARMERS MUST BE TREATED FAIRLY – Thomas Pringle TD
TD for Donegal stated Farmers are price takers because they have no choice as there is no competition in the beef sector in this country There are three major players one of which is dominant Over the past 20 years many small abattoirs have been put out of business as a result of increasing regulation They have been taken out of the buying market for beef which leaves only three factory groups remaining If a farm producer organisation pulls together 1 000 farmers and negotiates a deal which necessitates the transport of cattle what use is it to them The fundamental problem as I have raised with the Minister numerous times is that we do not have competition in the factory sector and farmers are forced to be price takers The proposed solution is just papering over the cracks It will probably streamline the process for the factories remove the threat of protest and allow them to continue as normal We will see in a couple of years time whether farmers will be protesting again The fundamental problem is that the market is controlled by too few operators I am sure international markets have competition authorities which have the teeth to be able to investigate markets which are not functioning correctly I think it is long overdue for the Competition Authority to get involved in this one and for the processors to open their books to them and let s see how the market is working stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story WATER CONSERVATION CLAIM OUSTED PRINGLE Next Story RURAL AREAS NEED ACTION NOT MAPS PRINGLE Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co

  • ‘WATER CONSERVATION CLAIM OUSTED,’ PRINGLE – Thomas Pringle TD
It Updated 13th November 2014 Thomas Pringle TD has today reacted to the finding by the Commission for Energy Regulation ComReg that water meters will save only 6 of water asserting that this clarifies beyond all doubt the real motivations behind Irish Water This has proven beyond all doubt that as we have always known Irish Water is nothing more than another money making machine introduced by this government This finding from a survey which Irish Water itself undertook shows that the consumption of water with metering will save just 22 litres a day which is the same as one dishwater cycle An average household of two adults and two children are expected to use 137 100 litres per year reducing to 129 000 with a meter For this minimal saving the installation of meters will cost 539 million over the next two years and we all know who will be footing the bill on that one Irish Water s only concern is about making money If this government thinks throwing out a few concessions for what is a fundamentally flawed body and an unjust charge will keep the people quiet then they re quite mistaken stated Pringle Be Sociable Share Previous Story Insultation programme for council houses Next Story BEEF FARMERS MUST BE TREATED FAIRLY Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required fields are marked Name Email Website Comment About admin Contact Info Killybegs Constituency Office Connolly House Bridge Street Killybegs Co Donegal 074 97 41880 thomas pringle oir ie Latest News Look out for my General Election 2016 newsletter February 11 2016 12 59 pm DONEGAL NOW Donegal TD reveals Minister Lynch will not meet with Save Our St Joseph s Campaign February 11 2016 11 24 am DONEGAL NOW Calls on
