  • The Past Presence | The Dock
    interests as part of our 10 year anniversary Aideen Barry s new work Not to be named is titled after Dante s reflection on monsters as the ones not to be named nor understood This short film draws us to question where the horror actually lies Maybe it s in the mountains of madness s we have created ourselves Not to be named plays with the monstrous and human expressions of emotion through the endless nightmare of domestic drudgery and compulsive consumption Commissioned by The Dock 10 years ago Landscapes by Karl Burke and Mark Garry reflected upon notions of a specific place its histories stories and mythologies It has gone on to be shown in London Paris Vilnius New York and Sydney This was the first film work made by both artists Ten years later we are re presenting the work with new sound elements composed from field recordings and guitar First and foremost a composer Jonathan Nangle s compositions explore many diverse fields ranging from inter active install ation to notated acoustic and electro acoustic sound and improvisation Pause is new commission by the Dock in association with Crash Ensemble featuring the young Irish ballet dancer Jamie Haughton

    Gallery 2 Gallery 3 03 July 12 September Exhibition Opening Friday 03 July 6pm Admission free Anna Macleod is a Leitrim based artist whose work on the complex subject of water has great international as well as local impact and relevance Water Conversations A Survey of Works 2007 2015 is major exhibition of the artist s activity that to date has taken place in Ghana West Africa Northern India Colorado USA Ireland Gobi Desert Mongolia Alberta Canada Alméria Spain and in October 2015 Broken Hill Australia Water Conversations is the umbrella term for an ongoing series of Macleod s projects since 2007 Articulated as a series of actions small sculptures posters drawings and public interventions the work explores the complex interstices between landscape science and technology culture and geopolitics The collaborative aspect of the work has led to working partnerships with artists scientists cultural geographers activists and engineers The recent works from Canada Water Conversations Alberta and OH Alberta explore the uneasy psychological space in contemporary life between a global addiction to fossil fuel and a desire for landscape as a wilderness space In addition to the exhibition which will take place in all The Dock s galleries there will

    performance activities for 35 years These have included street theatre street art and clowning much of it in Derry Since retiring from thirty years of university teaching Drama at the University of Ulster King has developed an interest in voice performance which has taken him into areas around open mic entertainment and sound poetry He performs regularly at Bbeyond monthly group events in Belfast and steadily in his adopted home
