    attention to the qualities of materials and interested in sculptural equilibrium Over his time here Hugh has become interested in the form and nature of architectural spaces in how they may be adjusted and reworked to suit changing visions Over many years buildings like the Dock have seen periods of adjustments and reworkings Each change forms an intervention in the architectural space making what might be solid fluid Small or large marks or changes form the evolving spatial story of the building This interplay between solidity and the possibility of adjustment are made to suit ever the buildings changing needs Responding to the many layered nuances of designed spaces he proposes to create a series of modular structures and curate a group of artworks to be displayed in the public spaces at The Dock His artwork will be a response to his observations about how the past functions of the building and its materiality becomes a documentation of multiple and various histories and how changes and adjustments are a representation of the imaginations and concerns of the buildings custodians and its users STUDIO 2 Printmaker Susan Mannion s specialism is wood engraving She has exhibited in London Dublin and throughout the U S A and in September she held her first solo show at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh As part of her residency she is keeping a digital diary inspired by her experiences at The Dock and the fabric of the building This will be linked into The Dock website in the form of a blog where she will post interesting snippets about the building its architecture and history Susan is a highly skilled wood engraver and she will also blog about the techniques involved and the historical context of wood engraving and its significance in the printing

  • The Dock has collaborated in and supported a number of music related project. The Leitrim Equation | The Dock
    rave review in the Journal of Music The commission was funded through the Arts Council s Music Commission programme Pause by Jonathon Nangle performed by Crash Ensemble Pause by composer Jonathon Nangle was the third Dock commission of 2015 This new work was premiered at The Dock by Crash Ensemble in October 2015 The Dock commissioned Jonathon Nangle to write this piece of music for Crash Ensemble and to incorporate a visual element to accompany the music in addition to a gallery show exploring the interplay between music and visual installation Pause formed part of Crash Ensemble s Born in the 80 s show featuring new music from Irish composers in their 20 s and early 30 s The work has also been performed at Tempered Belfast s inaugural contemporary music weekend in November This commission was funded through the Arts Council s Music Commission programme The Leitrim Equation The Leitrim Equation Traditional Music project in association with The County Leitrim Arts Office In 2006 Leitrim County Council Arts Office with the support of the Arts Council devised a programme called The Leitrim Equation The idea behind the programme was to invite a traditional Irish music band to spend time in Leitrim Over the course of a year and a half the band would visit the county for three days every couple of months meeting and playing with local musicians and playing in community settings as well as conventional venues Since the projects inception The Dock has played a central role in the propcess through assisting in the development of the various collaborations as well as providing a space for rehearsals and performance At the end of the residency a CD would be recorded which would be representative of that time spent in the county This process would celebrate music

  • Contemporary Dance, projects, performance, development, touring | The Dock
    choreogrpah and develop movement techniques for this project Under the Surface is a development of Kate s work Land Lakes and Clouds a dance film work for multi screen installation This work explores the strengths and fragilities of our connections to place and examines the nature of our relationships to land and water through movement For this project she has worked with four artists dancers and non dancers who live in County Leitrim These artists were selected because of their close relationship to their chosen landscape and for their marked ability to express ideas and emotions through authentic poetic movement Kate worked with them to develop devised and improvised movement works for camera that were filmed in situ Editing for this part of the project is now underway and a clip of the work at this early stage can be viewed at this link https www youtube com watch v BJnpI96d1j4 The second phase of filming for this project has the working title of Under the Surface and focuses more closely on our relationships with water This part of the project began with discussion and interviews with swimmers and with observation work Kate is currently involved in movement exploration in water with swimmers and am working towards the creation of devised and improvised movement works in water for film A key part of this work includes the development of a shared language for movement improvisation and the development of movement techniques through dance theatre workshops with the swimmers at the Dock You can find out more about Kate s practice on her website katewilsonartist com Other dance related projects include a daylong symposium on European Contemporary Dance with participants from Ireland The UK and Germany facilitated by The Dock and Leitrim Arts Office in 2013 Projects Residencies Artists in Residence
