  • Opinion: Will Google’s Chrome OS be dead on arrival? | Teic.ie
standard WinXP 7 based units in shops today So the question is how many people are actually still buying netbooks because they re cheap Few it can be assumed People who want a cheap computer laptop or desktop can do a whole lot better than a netbook for the money they may spend on one For example there is an 80 price difference between this Best Value 10 1 netbook and this Emachines EMD620 laptop on Dabs ie but the latter has a far better spec It would not make sense for anyone to buy a netbook for its value as a standard computer any more and no one does Instead it is portability and convenience that gives value to the netbook market with people willing to pay extra for a PC that has all the best bits in an unobtrusive package In short it seems as though Google s Chrome OS has been designed for a netbook that no longer exists and it is hard to see the tide being reversed to cater for it Sure netbooks will be made specifically for Chrome OS and they should end up cheap too but with modern netbook users having the luxury of everything that a big hard drive and relatively reasonably bit of power can do it is hard to see them get too interested Related Posts Hotmail to get new features facelift No Comments May 18 2010 Samsung tease their GalaxyTab before 2nd Sept reveal No Comments Aug 25 2010 Feature Cyberpsychology No Comments Jun 30 2010 Opinion Don t video call us Steve we ll video call you No Comments Jun 10 2010 6 Comments Niall Murphy 26 11 2009 I can see your point Adam It s a wonderful technical achievement and a worthy concept but netbooks are probably the wrong market As a competition to the rumoured Apple Tablet the OS could have some merit It would still need to allow access to locally stored media unless Google devise some way for streaming this from the cloud or home Eoin O Mahony 26 11 2009 Nice post Adam I take the point about price points on netbooks I bought an Asus Eee just as they were getting cold and the novelty was over It sits now under my TV used only when someone else is using the iMac While the goog R have already lowered expectations by saying this is the OS for second computers it is hard to know why they want a cloud OS right now Android anyone I know it might be like comparing apples and oranges but why build two platforms and think that device convergence won t lead to cannibalism Adam Maguire 26 11 2009 Niall remote access of media would be easy but only if the home PC was left on and connected at all times which wouldn t be practical for many The only other option is to allow people to store their media online a possibility but again far

  • IRMA loses in bid to force ‘three strikes’ on UPC | Teic.ie
by them A second warning is sent if the activity continues telling the user they will be disconnected if it continues and if it persists the customer is then removed from the network Alleged illegal users are identified by IRMA which passes the IP address on to ISPs Eircom are currently the only ISP to follow the system and adopted it after an out of court settlement with IRMA Today s ruling means it will be unlikely that IRMA will be able to force other ISPs to follow suit and so leaves Eircom in an isolated and tricky position Update Both Eircom and Vodafone who had been in talks with IRMA on three strikes have declined to comment on the ruling at present and have said they are reviewing the findings Related Posts Are we facing a digital book revolution No Comments Oct 4 2009 HTC HD7 coming to O2 in Ireland No Comments Oct 11 2010 Apple launches the iPad 3 Comments Jan 27 2010 Review Apple iPad No Comments Oct 8 2010 2 Comments Jamie 11 10 2010 I bet Eircom feels stupid now Also best news in ages Anonio Ginnelly 11 10 2010 Congratulationa dna well done to UPC for winning the IRMA case Grubby and Greedy record industry needs to get real in its efforts If they offered music to download at reasonable rates they would not have so many people sharing their files But at a crazy 99 cent a track what do they expect Long Live the Internet and down with Big Brother restrictions Sony should have learned their lesson when they got the backlash from the Rootkit incident How dare the record industry try to dictate to the free world Add a Comment Cancel reply Your email address will not be published Required
