    openness and transparency afforded to the BOM In supporting the work in the school it participates in the development of school plans and policies management of staff resources and buildings support teaching and learning in the school and makes provision for pupil s pastoral welfare and special needs It operates as a cohesive unit in the best interest of all the pupils in our school Role of the Parents Association The parents association in a Taghmon National School work with the principal staff and board of management to build effective co operation and partnership between home and school Chairperson Secretary Treasurer Paula Davitt Terri Greene Gillian Ryan The role of the parent s association is set down in the Education Act 1998 as follows A parents association shall promote the interests of the students in a school in co operation with the board principal teachers and students The Parents Association communicates through the school by sending out newletters The following are some of the activities in which Parents Associations might be involved Organising information social events for new parents to the school Arranging talks on topics of interest to parents e g guest speaker on parenting discipline etc Preparing school handbooks calendars Providing support organisational input to major school events e g communions confirmations debs etc Channelling parents views on school policy issues to the Principal Organising Fund Raising Events for the school Fund Raising Parents Associations are entitled to raise funds for the administration and activities of the association A Parents Association is expected to consult with the school board which includes the Principal about fund raising as the approval of the board is normally needed prior to funds being raised Any funds raised must be used for the purpose for which the money was collected Full accounts should

    accept responsibility for looking after any children after this time All children should enter the school through the main gate or stiles No child is allowed to cross or walk along the front walls of the school Children should use their respective doors when entering or leaving the main building of the school In the case of children travelling by school bus the school has no responsibility for their actions on the bus or for escorting them to and from the bus In the event of a pupil being absent through illness or for any other reason the class teacher should be informed by note on the pupil s return to school If it is anticipated that the absence will be of lengthy duration the class teacher of Principal should be informed by note of telephone as soon as possible Where it is necessary for a pupil to leave school early a note must be sent to the class teacher Parents guardians are asked to call personally to the classroom to collect the child Any person collecting a child on behalf of the parent will only be permitted to take the child if the parent has contacted the school beforehand Please accept that it is only in the interest of the safety of your child that these procedures are in force If sending money into the school for any reason would you please place it in an envelope and put the child s name class and the date on the cover Education Welfare Act 2000 The purpose of the Education Welfare act 2000 is to encourage regular school attendance and participation in education and training for as long as possible It is desirable that every child stays in school and completes the Leaving Certificate Under the Act every child must attend school regularly up to sixteen years of age or complete at least three years education in a post primary school whichever comes later The National Educational Welfare Board NEBW was established to support school attendance and follow up on children who are not attending school regularly As a parent you must let the school know if your child is absent and the reason why It is school policy that reasons must be given in writing The school will notify the National Education Welfare Board if a child is absent for 20 days or more or where the absence gives rise to concern About our School Taghmon Dress Code The highest standard of personal appearance is expected at all times Hair should be neat and tidy No make up allowed We encourage all pupils to wear the standard school uniform for Taghmon National School which comprises White shirt Maroon tie Maroon jumper Grey trousers or skirt It is very important that each child makes a major effort to wear the complete uniform Please try to have the uniform washed at weekends so that the children are not without their uniforms during the week There is a tendency not to wear
