    did not inform us of when you were booking your tour please email us with details prior to your visit so we can add the information to your details It is however your responsibility to take any necessary precautions and make any necessary arrangements regarding any allergies Arrival You should arrive onsite at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled visit as advised in your booking confirmation email Entrance cannot be guaranteed if you arrive earlier or later than this time If you are unsure about the time of your exhibition entry please contact us as soon as possible for confirmation If you are likely to be early or you are running late we also request that you contact King John s Castle admissions desk 061 370500 Your coach will be directed to our coach parking area Coach Parking is complimentary and is located adjacent to King John s Castle Each coach driver will be provided with a voucher for complimentary refreshments while you do the tour We do have some Storage for schools However as much as possible should be kept on the bus and just a small rucksack per student is necessary We request that schools who have uniforms wear them during the visit to help you identify your students On arrival to the Exhibition entrance you will be briefed and given and necessary information i e Maps Activities Worksheets depending on the tour you have booked You will also be given the opportunity to use the toilet facilities When your group is ready you will be escorted to level 1 where you will begin the King John s Castle experience Entry to the exhibition will be staggered with only one group of no more than 30 entering at any one time Split groups will either be given a specially prepared extension talk until they are ready to enter or will do an activity workshop if booked During the Visit The information in the exhibition will immerse you and your students in the story of King John s Castle Your students will encounter a variety of interactive activities and we encourage every visitor to experience them to the full King John s Castle is a self guided experience However we have resident costumed guides who can reveal the secrets and scandals of castle life if you wish to book them as part of the tour Should you require assistance at any time during your experience please alert a member of our staff who will be able to assist you It is essential that all pupils remain under the supervision of their teachers at all times during the visit This includes the exhibition floors courtyard and towers shop café and toilet facilities Running is prohibited in all areas Lunch Arrangements King John s Castle is now able to provide a limited amount of covered lunch space for school groups but cannot guarantee the availability of these We will firstly endeavour to accommodate schools and visitors who give advance notice

    In Dublin the Shannon Heritage run Malahide Castle and Gardens saw a 15 increase in visits Market research indicates that visitors from the US and Europe were up on 2014 whilst there was also significant increase in the amount of corporate events held in Shannon Heritage locations compared to last year Speaking about the figures Shannon Heritage CEO John Ruddle was delighted with the performance so far this year With 2014 having been the strongest year since 2007 the challenge was to keep the momentum into 2015 Hard work by everyone involved coupled with the continued upturn in the world economy has helped this to be the case We re on course to achieve a 10 overall increase in visitor numbers by years end particularly with key events set to take place in the final quarter such as the Bluegrass Festival in Bunratty Castle in October and new this year Oktoberfest and a special Christmas event in King John s Castle Commenting on the results Neil Pakey CEO Shannon Group plc said While 2015 has been an excellent year for Shannon Heritage thus far hopes are high that 2016 can be even better again Shannon Heritage s involvement in the

    to 5 00 pm each day The ancient pagan festival of Lughnasa marks the first day of autumn and the start of the harvest season The event will be staged by Claíomh Living History Group whose members have many years of experience as historical interpreters and living history specialists Mr Ruddle continued Claíomh Living History Group will give visitors a unique glimpse of what living conditions were like for Hiberno Norse families living in a Crannóg On display will be a range of replica Viking Age clothing artefacts and weapons A number of showcase events from different time periods are planned over the weekend including a display of the material culture of the 1916 era and the Irish Volunteers Among them samples of everyday items such as ceramics glassware leather accoutrements uniforms paperwork coinage and weaponry Described as Ireland s Golden Age the Early Christian period will also be brought to life for visitors The action will be based around the Ring Fort at Craggaunowen where a range of aspects of life from 2nd to 8th century Ireland will be demonstrated The unique Irish chariot project which is a reconstruction based on High Cross carvings and literary references will also be on display for visitors to view at the Ring Fort The late Medieval and Tudor period c 1400 to 1600 will be recreated on the green in front of 16th century Craggaunowen Castle showcasing arms armour combat technique and textiles Visitors will be able to see demonstrations on 16th century life and also gain an insight into 15th and 16th century military technologies and methods with a display of reconstructed clothing arms and armour A full programme of events for the day will be available at the Craggaunowen admissions building With an emphasis on value for money Shannon Heritage
