    covered under the scope of Controlled Electrical Works these works are defined as electrical works that should be certified if carried out by a REC For more information please see decision paper CER 09 009 setting out scope here Individuals who are not registered who carry out electrical work which falls under the scope of Controlled Electrical Works are not required to certify that work However the person on whose behalf the Controlled Electrical Works are being carried out are obliged to request one of the Safety Supervisory Bodies SSBs to carry out a third party inspection of the works completed This is to provide assurances that the installation has been carried out and tested in line with the relevant Technical Rules and standards ET101 2008 Minor Works as outlined in ANNEX 63B Section 2B of ET 101 2008 rules fall outside the scope of Controlled Electrical Works However it is important that minor electrical works are in compliance with the National Wiring Rules and from a safety perspective it is important that these works only be completed by competent individuals Click here for more information Restricted Electrical Works It is illegal for anyone other than a Registered Electrical Contractor
