  • RDS Primary Science Fair Teacher Feedback - RDS
Development of Confidence in Teaching Science Leading and directing the students into a true hands on approach to the subject broadened my own experience of the subject I feel much more confident in my teaching of the sciences Was somewhat nervous about participating but realise now that it s not so daunting And the gains far outweigh the work involved Participating in this project showed me that teaching science is most effective when students are actively involved I realised it s not always the results of the experiments but that the children think for themselves and come up with their own ideas Development of pupils skills across the curriculum Working Scientifically The project allowed the children to experience the entire cycle of a scientific investigation The most enjoyable aspect was when our initial ideas went wrong and we had to replan our investigations It gave my student s a goal to aim for it demonstrated that not all experiments are over in one lesson It gave them real experience with setting goals and accepting outcomes even if they were not what were hoped for or expected Designing and Making By designing and making the children were testing their theories and modifying their ideas to try and improve their ideas It helps show the children that it is ok to make mistakes but you must keep working to improve and make things better Oral Language Development The children now ask more questions based on their findings They are also more willing to offer their opinion and why they think this is the case Integrating Maths Science It was a great way to introduce a new topic of pie charts to my class It showed the children a practical use for gathering information and how to display it in graphs It also
