    the beginning of May The Art History exam is completed in June A trip to Newgrange takes place in early 5th year and a gallery museum trip in 6th year is compulsory for the course The structure of the course and the exam is very different to that of the Junior Certificate course Marking Scheme for elements of the Art Exam There is a wide breadth of choice in the exam structure for Leaving Cert Art and students should be aware that for both ordinary and higher level you will have four examination areas 2 3 Practical 1 3 Art History Appreciation A total of 400 marks are given overall as shown below 1 Design 2hrs 30 min 100 or Craft 5hrs 100 completed in one day Craft area studied 2 Imaginative Composition 100 or Still life 100 2hrs 30mins Still life area studied 3 Life Sketching 50 two poses studied full standing pose 15mins 20 choice of full or half pose given in more detail 30 4 Art History 150 3 questions X 50 marks each For elements 1 2 and 3 Pupils receive exam papers a number of weeks prior to sitting the exam These exams are completed at the beginning of May These areas are broke down as follows 1 Life Drawing 1hour in total 50 marks Two sketches of a model in a specific pose Study of the human figure developing tone proportion and movement within the drawing to create a 3D illusion on a 2D surface two poses studied full standing pose 15mins 20 choice of full or half pose given in more detail compared with the first pose 30 Students may continue to work on their drawing during the model s rest periods and during the break between poses Students are given the exam a number of weeks before hand so it is of benefit to them in practicing the poses for the exam 2 Imaginative Composition Still Life 2hrs 30mins 100 marks Students are given a choice of a number of texts descriptive passages which will inspire the finished work Imaginative Composition A picture sketch painting collage mixed media Still life A composition of still life objects which are brought in to the exam and arranged for observation using a variety of media Still Life Recommended Students are given the exam a number of weeks before hand so it is of benefit to them in practicing the poses for the exam Craft Exam 5 hrs 100 marks A selection of crafts are on offer such as Batik Calligraphy Lino Print Book craft Poster Sculpture etc Throughout 5th year students work in a number of these areas building on their abilities and discovering their strong points and what area they are most accomplished at Pupils receive the practical exam papers a number of weeks prior to sitting the exam and this gives them good time to prepare for the exam These exams are completed at the beginning of May Once the titles are given
