    small group and they work on phonics reading and writing Literacy hour will also take place in Mrs Quigley and Mrs Keogh s class this half term Pupil of the week One pupil each week from each class will be named as Pupil of the week This award can be given for any reason academic sporting social Certificates will be presented to the winning pupils at school assembly every Friday Class of the Month Pupils receive stars for their class from other teachers when they are polite helpful to staff and to other pupils respectful towards others following the school rules trying their best etc The stars are counted at the end of each month and the class with the most stars will be Class of the Month The reward is decided on by the class teacher Infant Collection at 2pm From Monday 14th September Junior Infants will stay at school until 2pm and may be collected at the tennis court Parent Teacher Communication If you wish to meet with your child s class teacher or the principal please call the school office 9am 1pm and make an appointment Remember if you have a query or concern regarding your child you should always speak to the class teacher first Morning Supervision Assembly There is no supervision for pupils in the school yard before 9am on school mornings Please do not drop pupils to school before 9am Pupils should assemble in the yard in the mornings and line up when the bell rings A teacher and the SNAs will be supervising Pupils are not allowed access to the classrooms until 9 20am The only exception to this is when it is raining and pupils assemble in the school hall If a pupil needs to use the toilet before 9 20am they should ask permission from the supervising teacher Please note that chewing gum is not allowed in school School Lunches A reminder that all school lunch rubbish must be brought home by all pupils This is important as parents will then know exactly what their children are eating while at school If your child does not like something that they are getting for their lunch please change their menu on the Fresh Today Website Sign Out Book Best practice is that pupils be signed out of school of they are leaving at any stage during the school day The sign out book is located on the windowsill beside Clodagh s office and we would ask anyone collecting a pupil during the school day for any reason to please sign them out Please include the pupil s name the time they are leaving and the signature of the person collecting them If the pupil is returned to school they should be signed back in Many thanks for your co operation Teaching Practice We are delighted to welcome back again teaching student and past pupil Stephen Levingstone who will spend this term working and gaining experience in our school Think Maths Like last

    the duration of the coaching Swimming Swimming lessons for Mrs Quigley and Mrs Keogh s classes will commence on Thursday 5th November They will run for six weeks in the Apex pool in New Ross The PA will kindly sponsor the buses for swimming again this year Further information will be passed on to those classes Green Flag Please send in any old batteries stamps mobile phones and ink cartridges on Thursdays for recycling Please continue to support our school and St Vincent de Paul by placing old newspapers in the bins provided outside the school Living Arts Project We are thrilled to say that our school in conjunction with the Wexford Arts Council will be taking part in the Living Art project The project involves an artist working in the school for 15 weeks and an exhibition at the end in the Wexford Arts Centre We are delighted that local artist Rosie O Gorman from the Cowhouse Studio will be working with Mr Kinsella and Miss Hayden s classes for the duration of the project Health Promoting School Achievements Book Each week as part of the Health Promoting Schools initiative an achievements book is passed through the school Any achievements that the pupils have are filled into the book and the achievements are then read out during assembly on Fridays In this way each pupils successes are celebrated PA There will be a Used Clothes Collection on Thursday 22nd October at school This will be a fundraiser for the Parents Association The clothes will go to the National Council for the Blind of Ireland Please drop bags of clothes inside the front gate of the school on the morning of the 22nd any time up to 9 20am Thanks for your support Parent Teacher Meetings These will take place

    questions the about the word For example they could ask What is the first letter What is the last letter How many letters are there etc 3 Media Search Using a newspaper or magazine you have 15 minutes to look for your spelling words Circle them in different coloured crayon Which of your spellings words was used the most times 4 Shaving Cream Practice An easy way to clean those dirty tables is to finger paint on them with shaving cream Squirt some on the table with your parents permission and supervision and then practice spelling your words by writing them with your finger in the shaving cream 5 Salt Box Spelling Ask your parents pour salt into a shallow box or tray about 3cm deep and then practice writing you spellings in it with your finger 6 Scrabble Spelling Find the letters you need to spell you words and then mix them up in the bag Get your parents to time you unscrambling your letters 7 Pyramid Power Sort your words into a list from easiest to hardest Write the easiest word at the top of the page near the middle Write the next easiest word twice underneath Write the third word three times underneath again until you have built your pyramid 8 Ransom Note Cut the letters needed for your words from a newspaper or magazine and glue them down to spell the words 9 Spell It With Peas Use dried peas or any dried beans or lentils to spell out your words If you glue them onto separate pieces of card then you made a great set of flash cards to practice with for the rest of the week 10 Pipe Cleaners Or Tooth Picks These are just a couple of suggestions of things you could use to for your spelling words 11 Tasty Words Just like above but this time try and find tasty things to spell your words with like raisins Then when you spell them right you get to eat them 12 Design A Word Pick one word and write it in bubble letters Colour in each letter in a different pattern 13 Water wash Use a paintbrush and water to write your words outside on concrete or pavements 14 ABC Order Write your words out in alphabetical order Then write them in reverse alphabetical order 15 Story Time Write a short short using all your words Don t forget to check your punctuation 16 Simple Sentence Write a sentence for each of your words Remember each sentence must start with a capital letter and end with a full stop 17 Colourful Words Use two different coloured pens to write your words One to write the consonants and one to write the vowels Do this a couple of times then write the whole word in one colour 18 Memory Game Make pairs of word cards Turn them all over and mix them up flip over two cards if they match you get to keep
