  • Nissan journey’s to the cloud advances customer experience. | PFH Technology Group
of role consolidation Rather than expand staff numbers Nissan relied heavily on the cloud to reduce the required on site knowledge base skills in terms of supporting web servers etc Nissan s core business isn t reliant on having a substantial data server A move to the cloud would contribute to its bottom line and mean that it will worry an awful lot less about disaster recovery DR for items like email file share and Sharepoint These are the things that take up time and effort and resources in the company For us up to now the challenge of losing a site was problematic says Rory Donnelly Chief Information Officer at Nissan We d have to reinstall restore all data and mailboxes but now if we lose a prime site we just need internet connectivity and we re back Nissan has one site in Park West Dublin and also rack office space in Swords Dublin with back up servers The company backs up servers consequently if there is a problem all virtual machines are replicated There is an opportunity to replicate them into cloud SOLUTION There were a number of factors as to why cloud was the correct solution Not only was it a proven winning strategy but also Nissan s hand was forced due to the challenging nature of the motor industry The best way to go was to remove the need for on site resources by going to the cloud The timing was good Nissan decided that they would choose an external company to do an assessment of their environment to help them to decide on the next best step beginning the process by going to tender PFH was very familiar with us and won the tender based on their all round experience and the quality and expertise

  • Cloud Computing - The Sunday Business Post | PFH Technology Group
all the logic goes you wouldn t bother generating your own electricity so why bother building IT infrastructure when you can just pay for it as you need it For smaller companiesin particular not going with cloud delivered services is an odd choice now Why would you take on all the cost and inconvenience of building out your own infrastructure when you could rent it from a provider who has expertise in it said Chris Casey service manager with PFH Technology group Nobody would actually build their own electricity generating station yet that s what many small companiesare effectively doing if they renot including at least somecloud delivered offerings in their IT estate he said According to Casey while it might make sense to have back up generators in place in case of a disaster no sensible business bothers to generate electricity for its daily needs So it is with cloud services a good disaster recovery and business continuity plan is a must in order to offset the risk of moving essential elements of your business off site But the cloud has proven itself so any company in a position to make use of it which isn t is missing a trick For people who maybe haven t already gone dow that road then the analogy is that this is a mature technology and is no longer new It s not edgy or experimental The analogy of electricity is quite a good one in the early days companies sometimes made their own but nobody would do that now he said The technology has moved on to the point that you would probably even keep your backup and disaster recovery solution inthe cloud too Despite the proven business case Casey said he sometimes still comes across hesitancy on behalf of companies
