that my teeth stuck out when I smiled and as a result I tended to avoid smiling in photos altogether instead opting to keep my mouth closed When I turned 40 I began to think about it more seriously and in the end it was actually my husband who mentioned to his dentist that I wasconsidering orthodontic treatment His dentist recommended Dr Don Ryan as being the best in the county to do it Dr Ryan recommeded that I have three teeth extracted which I did and a week later my braces were fitted I was very lucky as Dr Ryan estimated that my treatment would take two years but in fact it only took 20 months in total I must say I had a really positive experience Dr Ryan has a state of the art facility clean and modern and he talked me through the process from start to finish The cost was clearly explained to me at initial consultation so there were no surprises and I could pay in four stages which was great I was also able to claim some tax back from Revenue I am so delighted with the results I feel like a new person

would have priority on the waiting list because of the extent of her problem but she just got the same letter from the HSE that every child receives So as they waited the problems with her teeth and jawline were just getting worse and they felt she would lose valuable time to correct the problem if she stayed on the list and that it would be unfair to make her

I remember getting a tooth taken out that was growing sideways in my gum It was an eye tooth so an important tooth but it was actually growing up inside my gum and I couldn t actually see it I wasn t left with a gap after the extraction because there was overcrowding and that gap just filled itself up However over time as I got older I could see there was a drop to one side so instead of having prominent teeth I had teeth that fell in on one side Then when I was in my twenties I thought I would love to get braces and did some research on the internet and went to directly to Dr Katherine Condren specialist orthodontist in Terenure for the treatment I ended up wearing braces for 18 months and before the braces were fitted I had to get another tooth taken out I had a gap in the side for three or four months as the brace pulled all the teeth over and then it was just perfection The braces I had fitted on my top teeth were the clear ceramic ones that blended in with my teeth so they weren

Hanrahan When I was sixteen years of age I had four of my front teeth accidentally knocked out during a football match I was playing in goal and went down to save a ball but I was hit in the mouth by the striker from another team By coincidence there was a dentist on the side of the pitch at them time and he advised that the four teeth were put into milk as we waited for the ambulance Also by coincidence I had finished two years of treatment in April 2011 and my teeth were absolutely perfect when the accidence happened in September 2012 So my dad called my orthodontist Dr O Hanrahan and Sinead met me at Temple Street Children s University Hospital and I went to the operating theatre where Sinead put the teeth back in Basically this is a temporary job that will get me through the next couple of years until my mouth is fully formed and then I will have to get implants After the surgery in Temple Street I was referred to the Dublin Dental Hospital as a day patient for six days as they had to stitch up the inside of my

was interfering with my social life and I was always hiding it from my friends I felt it was very prominent and I got a quite an amount of slagging about it Following a visit from a HSE dentist to my school when I was aged 15 years old I was referred to Dr Sinead O Hanrahan Specialist Orthodontist Navan and HSE Orthodontist and President OSI and I was delighted when she said something could be done about my overlapping jaw Sinead recommended that I should have braces first for two years through the HSE public orthodontics system Then I would have surgery to correct both of my jaws performed by Mr Dylan Murray Craniofacial and Jaw Surgeon Temple Street Children s Hospital and the Mater Hospital I met Mr Murray several times before my surgery and the surgery took place in the Mater Hospital in mid 2013 After the surgery my jaws were held closed with elastic bands for six weeks I had to take nourishment through a straw as I could not open my mouth Bit by bit I was able to move on to taking yoghurts and soup but it took approximately three months before I could
