  • Putting it in PERSPECTIVE - One Wild Ride
us single handed sailing all the way For the record that doesn t mean I m a complete mad man I will be using both hands it just means there s no one else to help me do the work or you in your metaphorical boat The route presents its own challenges too Ireland may be known for its spectacular Irish coastline but that jagged stretch of untamed beauty makes for a cruel and cold host when the weather turns nasty As the saying goes it d be a lovely little country if we could only roof it its not going to be a case of if its going to be a case of when and how often there s bad weather Hiding from the elements or the sea itself will be a touch difficult too my bathtub for a boat has no cabin so no protection Imagine having someone hurl buckets of cold water at you all day every day for 40 odd days and you re close Of course I could just turn on my engine and go hide if it all got too much right Eh no One Wild Ride is fundamentally a sailing challenge so when the going gets tough there ll be no engine to rely on just the wind to power the boat all the way to the finish through the quiet days with hardly a breath the wild crazy days where the sea boils about you and everywhere else in between And then there s the toll on the body Day after day sailing 8 10 hours a day The mental and physical balancing act of muscles giving up when the brain hasn t Assuming all that goes to plan then it s just about staying upright avoiding breakages personal injury evading fatigue
