why I m delighted that they ll be doing this year s MS Read a thon It s their first one and they re really excited about it They ve already started competing with each other to see who ll raise the most sponsorship That s because they know that all the sponsorship they raise will help mammies like theirs living with MS What is MS Well the easiest way to explain it is that I have little cuts on my brain that do funny things to me It makes me tired all of the time And it affects my eyes too Sometimes things start looking a little blurry Because MS makes me so tired there are times I m just not up to running around with Mya and Leon That s when I have to say mammy needs to take a little rest I love reading with my children And reading on my own used to be one of the things I most enjoyed My favourite book from when I was a little girl is called My Naughty Little Sister But with my MS I sometimes find it hard to concentrate on reading now I can get really tired at night so I can t always do bedtime stories with my children But they enjoy every minute we re able to spend reading together That s one of the great things about the MS Read a thon It gets children excited about reading I love where stories can take you You get to leave the real world behind and enter a world of fantasy and make believe And by doing the MS Read a thon you re helping mammies like me Over the last few years MS Ireland really helped me And I know they help so many people

  • Your Story · READaTHON
to go but I ran as fast as my dog runs when he sees his food When I eventually stopped it wasn t because I wanted too it was because I was too tired to run any further My feet were aching and my stomach turning because of the hunger I decide I d better go to that tunnel that led to a tunnel that led to another tunnel So I headed directly towards it nothing was going to distract me from getting there Well except for the really cool talking house I saw but unfortunately it only spoke Danish I was relieved when I got to the starting tunnel because I needed to rest but when I entered it everything went black Suddenly after the darkness came light and I was back home all cosy in my bed What has happened Is the question I asked myself quietly Come on Grace time to get up My mother was calling from the kitchen Come down before your eggs go cold I slowly came to my senses and realised it was all just a wonderful dream Story Theme World of Wonder It Could Happen Author Laura O Driscoll Hi my name is Sophie I m 11 years old and when I m older I am going to be a writer My mother has a blog and my father is a journalist but for some reason they never let me help apparently I am too little and I wouldn t be able to help Well I will prove them wrong Today mam was sitting at the computer working on her blog Hi mam can I help you I love to write I offered cheerfully but of course I got the same answer as usual Oh love you wouldn t be able to help this is far too difficult for you to write I gave her the same answers as always do But mam I can help I m getting very good at writing you know and when I am big I m going to be a writer I might even have my own blog oh yes and I will write about food fashion my life and more Mam giggled as she always does Oh Sophie how you do have big dream s she said while she pinched my cheek s It could happen mam I Informed her as a left the room a little annoyed I went off upstairs to dad sitting at his desk writing an article Hi dad oh please could I help How I long to write something other then stories for a change and of course this is what dad said Oh hi lovey I think this may be a little hard for you to help with your only 11 and this is very difficult That was what he said every time a practically knew that sentence word for word and I m sure he knew my answer word for word as well I can help dad because when I am a grown up I m going to be a writer I might even be a journalist like you oh yes I would write about celebrities and travelling and more Dad chuckled as he always does I m sure you will oh you have such big hope s he said as he messed up my hair It could happen I said as I left the room very crossly I don t care what they say I am going to be a writer and I do have what it takes I am certainly not too little yes it could happen actually it will happen I will most definitely be a writer after all I am writing this story Story Theme It Could Happen It Could Happen Author Katie O Flynn It could Happen I can still remember the conversation What would you do if you knew this was the last night of the world Jacob had taken me by surprise If these were the last few moments in which you lived If you were to speak one last sentence If you were to carry out one last action To create one last memory The seriousness in Jacobs s voice scared me a little I hadn t thought about it Nobody had really thought about it well but Jacob He was unique that way always thinking what no one else dared to What would I do Yes what would you do Well I hadn t really thought about it before Well think about it now just close your eyes and imagine Releasing a short but heavy sigh I gently closed my eyes What would happen if the mighty hand of humanity simply disappeared Jacob you re being dramatic I don t have time for this just listen to what I have to say Jacob was stubborn that way and could always reel you in to see his point of view I was the opposite A pushover I mean it could happen What if one day we were to wake up to nothing No birds chirping no longer soaring through the air No sun shining bringing darkness to our lives It started to hit me what an isolated and sombre place we would live in No laughing children just the rustling of leaves in the gentle wind No more flowers dancing in the soft breeze See that s what I m saying Jacob replied with such eagerness like he knew it was going to happen I should have listened at the time I should have listened What would become of us without chirping birds the shining sun and joyous laughter What would cause this brutal extinction The inquisitive tone in his voice made me think about what Jacob was questioning me An invasion of dragons flying fast in the air one blur after another with their smooth black scales shadows in the night sky from the moons glistening radiance Or Or a monstrous tsunami destroying everything in its path coming fast
