    Ireland Phone 353 61 293000 Fax 353 61 293001 Email Information lit ie News LIT News Item Craol Achievement Awards 2015 News Congratulations to Katie Hughes and Jack Ward 1st Year Video Sound Students here at LIT on their success at the Craol Achievement Awards 2015 Their special production for the Annual Limerick Film Festival won a National Craol Achievement Award in the Special Programming Category a great achievement by both the students of 1st year Video Sound and Wired FM These students have successfully illustrated the active learning profile of the department and LIT and the industry relevance and high standard of the Video Sound programme Dr Frances Hardiman Head of Department Electrical Electronic Engineering The Craol Achievement Awards 2015 were presented Friday 5th June at the Royal Marine Hotel Dun Laoghaire 28 Entries from 17 different Community Radio stations were shortlisted in four categories The high standard of programming delivered by Wired FM is reflected in the station succeeding in three out of the four awarding categories making Wired FM the highest achieving station on the night Katie and the guys put an enormous amount of work into their weekly show They are extremely passionate about what they do and their enthusiasm is completely infectious Obviously not being content with cleaning up at the annual Wired FM awards they have gone on to win this coveted National award and we here at Wired are delighted that their hard work has been acknowledged There was a record number of entries this year and competition was at an all time high so Wired were delighted to take home a total of three On the night the volunteers in attendance got a real kick out of being asked by other stations what our secret was Ray Burke Station Manager Wired FM Katie Hughes and Jack Ward past students of St Mary s Secondary School Ballina and Salesian Secondary College Pallaskenry were nominated for their Outside Broadcast Production from the Limerick Film Festival They were assisted by Station Co op Student Sinead Butler and Rachel McNamara a 5th Year student from Coláiste Chiaráin Croom who also joined the production team as part of her work experience Katie and Jack are joined by their class colleague Fiachra Jaath Gallagher as part of the production team for a regular broadcast The Irish Music and Arts Show which is aired every Wednesday on Wired 99 9 FM This show features interviews with different musicians all around Ireland and features music from Irish artists only What s very satisfying is that those guys are ace students too and don t neglect their studies for WiredFM clearly they manage the balance to perfection Well done all round Liam MacCartaigh Programme Leader Video Sound Technology Historically Wired FM has done well at the Craol Awards with Music Technology Students Mark Browne Matt Laming and Eoin O Cleirigh picking up an award for their broadcasting of Éir Play last year Approximately 70 to 80 students from the Music Technology
