    film Society L I T Thurles Foroige Society And many others Student Life While study is an important part of college life it is also about meeting new people and making new friends enjoying new experiences and having fun Sport plays a big part in life at LIT and all students are encouraged to get involved in the clubs and societies across our campuses We cater for all levels of activity and you can get involved at your own pace whether you are an elite athlete a beginner or just looking to get fit and have fun However we do also encourage students to maintain a healthy balance between lectures and study and their sports and social lives Clubs Societies For first year students in particular joining a club or society is a great way to make new friends and meet people with similar interests and helps to make the transition from school to college easier Involvement in a club or society also helps you to develop other valuable skills alongside your academic skills such as leadership skills through committee involvement experience in event management and much more College will introduce you to many new adventures and activities that you may not have attempted previously whether that s kite surfing rock climbing or insanity training LIT boasts a vibrant clubs and societies scene ensuring that many sporting interests are catered for Clubs and activities include Hurling Camogie Men s and Ladies Gaelic Football Men s and Ladies Rugby Soccer Golf Outdoor Club Boxing Weightlifting and Basketball to name but a few as well as activities such as Aerobics Boxercise and Yoga Freshers Week takes place at the beginning of each academic year and is the main recruitment time for clubs and societies when you can find out more about their activities and sign up New clubs and societies are always encouraged In recent times LIT has experienced considerable success in inter varsity competitions The Boxing club won two IATBA Senior Ladies Colleges titles during the year and continues to go from strength to strength while our Weightlifting club has won over ten gold medals this year across all competitions The 2014 2015 season was also a successful one on the GAA front with our Camogie team winning the All Ireland Colleges Division 4 League and Championship There is a huge desire within the LIT GAA Club to keep growing as a club and developing young hurlers footballers and administrators that we hope will serve the broader GAA community well following their time spent in LIT We are also extremely proud of our Rugby Development Officer Joy Neville and Niamh Kavanagh from our International Office who were members of Ireland s historic first ever Grand Slam winning Ladies Rugby squad in 2013 In addition to sports clubs there is also a diverse range of societies for students to get involved in including the Computer and Business Societies Green Campus Committee and the GIVE initiative Students also get involved in many initiatives
