    The President Academic Council Governing Body Useful Information Academic Calendar Freedom Of Information Reports Procedures Plans Useful Links Vacancies LIT STAFF Search the staff directory CONTACT US Contact Details LIT Moylish Park Limerick Ireland Phone 353 61 293000 Fax 353 61 293001 Email Information lit ie Flexible Learning LIT Flexible Learning Courses Pages 26 Flexible Learning Working Positively with Behaviours that Challenge Level 9 SPA LIT Certificate Programme Code 5501 Provider Department of Applied Social Sciences Duration 8 full days of training over a 10 month period Commencing in February 2016 Closing Date Deadline for applications is 5 00pm on Monday 14th December 2015 Campus Moylish Description Modules Apply Opportunities Contact Programme Aims This is an intensive training course specifically for parents and or professionals living or working with children adults who present with challenging behaviour This Programme is a Special Purpose Award of 10 credits at Masters level and is designed to develop an understanding of non aversive Positive Behaviour Support and to provide parents and professionals with full training in assessing the causes of challenging behaviour and developing implementing and evaluating a comprehensive behaviour support plan This programme will be of interest to people who work with live with people who present with Challenging Behaviour It is an intensive 10 month training programme which involves 8 full days of training and practical academic assignments to be carried out in the learners daily setting The programme supports learners to develop and implement comprehensive non aversive behavioural support plans with people to help increase their quality of life and reduce the need for challenging behaviour in the short term and the long term The style of teaching on the course is particular case training which means the learner is required to carry out an actual behaviour support plan with someone who is presenting with behavioural challenges The learner will also need to identify a workplace supervisor to monitor the implementation of the behaviour support plan Entry Requirement Applicants must be over 18 must be currently working in the field and have a minimum of 2 years experience and or appropriate qualifications or be a parent of a child who presents with behaviours that challenge Examinations Students are assessed by means of ongoing continuous assessment Course Content A Model of Multi Element Behavioural Support Features of the model proactive versus reactive strategies understanding challenging behaviour range of outcomes reasons why people punish definition of non aversive a rationale for non aversive intervention research evidence on the effectiveness of non aversive alternatives Environmental Accommodations Rationale for environmental adaptation the physical environment the interpersonal environment the programmatic environment activity sampling choice guidelines for implementing pictorial sequencing Skills Teaching General skills teaching low inference training self esteem and behavioural support definition of function types of function functionally equivalent skills teaching co trainer prompting functionally related skills teaching coping and tolerance skills teaching progressive relaxation Direct Interventions Differential reinforcement of other behaviour DRO fixed interval reset variants free access rule satiation Differential reinforcement of low
