    Knitwear Textiles BA Hons in Design LC114 Fashion Knitwear Textiles BA Hons in Design Home LC114 Fashion Knitwear Textiles BA Hons in Design Fashion Knitwear and Textiles BA Hons in Design Level 8 Programme Code LC114 Course Level Level 8 Department Art Design CAO Points 707 Campus Limerick Clare St Description Modules Apply Opportunities What is the programme about This unique Bachelor of Arts in Design in Fashion Knitwear and Textiles offers students the opportunity of training in areas specific to fashion knitwear design and production within the clothing sector and also knitted textile design focusing on areas which include accessories for fashion interior accessories and fine art textiles The popularity of knitwear design within the existing internationally recognised BA in Fashion Design programme is evidenced by the previous success of students in recent knit competitions including the RDS Competition in Knit and Crochet 2011 Persil Fashion Awards 2010 and international competitions including Mittel Moda Recent students who have specialised in knitwear include Rebecca Marsden and Fiona Nugent with past graduates including Orlaith O Connor and Katarzyna Wypych showing their graduate knit collections in Shanghai 2010 and Washington DC 2010 There is an increased demand for knit specialisation in fashion at both national and international level and this programme aims to meet this growing demand LSAD is unique in being the only third level college in Ireland to offer training on the Shima Seiki industrial knitwear machine This new programme also offers students the exciting prospect to work on live collaborative projects in conjunction with the knit sector and a work placement within industry Did You Know Year 1 Year 1 of the programme endeavours to provide students with the necessary skills vocabulary and contextual knowledge to build a strong foundation in Fashion Knit Textiles It is composed of modules in Research Design Development Colour Presentation Pattern Drafting Construction Illustration Fashion Specific Drawing Fashion Knitwear Knitted Textiles Fashion Theory Contextual Research Year 2 This year will enhance student employability and career prospects by deepening design and skill knowledge acquiring new skills and competencies most crucially in garment and product design production knitted textile development and Knit CAD CAM technology It is composed of the following modules Research and design development Textile development Knitting skills techniques CAD CAM Design Programming Pattern drafting Construction for Product Fashion Presentation Drawing Fashion Theory Contextual Research Year 3 Students will further develop their own unique process of research and design development relevant to their particular area of practice They will continue to improve their skill and knowledge with regard to the appropriate knitwear technology including use of the Shima Seiki knitwear machine Students will also prepare for work placement during the second semester of this year Erasmus funding is available if placement is within Europe Year 4 Having completed a three month work placement students will have developed their own personal strengths and interests and will research and design in response to a self initiated and self directed brief Students will be expected to produce

    links to sites featuring the work of artists and designers Emphasis is placed on collaboration to identify personal and common artworld preferences and ad hoc collectives are established for the exchange of ideas and show work This activity concerns openness and receptivity to contemporary art and design ideas forms situations Learners interrogate and conceptualise forms that most interests them It involves examining local national and international exhibitions and cultural events Attention is given to modernist and postmodern paradigms The activity involves searching and tagging acting in the role of a critic and negotiating discourses within a community of practice One area is dealt with in this activity creative practice Building on prior experience this is a sustained period of art design making Being inquiry minded is central as is fostering relations within the community of practice especially in the context of mutual supports and encouragement and offsetting isolation Two main areas are dealt with One contemporary concepts of art and design education and two teacher research to develop a deeper understating of learning teaching curriculum and school community contexts The research is framed by the learners own contexts and questions Emphasis is placed on diverse methods to capture the work
