    LIT Welcome From The President Academic Council Governing Body Useful Information Academic Calendar Freedom Of Information Reports Procedures Plans Useful Links Vacancies LIT STAFF Search the staff directory CONTACT US Contact Details LIT Moylish Park Limerick Ireland Phone 353 61 293000 Fax 353 61 293001 Email Information lit ie LIT in Tipperary LIT LIT in Tipperary News Kids Flock to LIT Tipperary for Coding Club LIT in Tipperary Kids Flock to LIT Tipperary for Coding Club A new Computing club CoderDojo for kids at LIT Tipperary is proving to be a phenomenal success with up to 100 students from primary and secondary schools coming to the LIT Thurles campus every Thursday afternoon The first event was held on March 15th and was launched by the founder of CoderDojo James Welton CoderDojo has now spread throughout Ireland and the world The Tipperary CoderDojo programme is run by volunteers and the young attendees have the opportunity to learn how to code develop websites mobile applications programs games and more During this first term the focus has been on website development through HTML CSS and JavaScript with the older students and games development and basic coding through Scratch with the younger group With the ever increasing demand for ICT graduates and the increased exposure to digital media and systems young people are hungry for knowledge and information in the area Parents can also observe and become familiar with the world of computing and coding Jacqueline Humphries Lecturer in the Department of Technology Media and Science at LIT Tipperary was involved in starting the CoderDojo movement in Tipperary She noted The fact that we are getting so many kids coming back every week for more is great to see CoderDojo clubs provide an opportunity for young people to experiment and learn from their peers
