    Link Credit Union Ltd Benefits of a Credit Union The Difference Between Credit Unions other Financial Providers Savings Shares Savings Current Accounts Schools Saving Scheme Life Savings Insurance My BugetBuddy Resources CU Online Help Section Forms Downloads FAQS Links Contact Us Home Dormant Accounts Dormant Accounts Dormant Accounts Dormant accounts are classified as any account which has no member generated transaction in the last 3 years If you think you may have an account and have not used it in some time there is no need to join again You are still a member When an account becomes dormant it does not mean the account is closed your shares will remain in the credit union and will continue to earn dividend on an annual basis What are my options Reactivate your account To do this you will need to make a transaction lodgement or withdrawal You will also need valid photo I D passport or driving licence proof of address utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months and your PPS number on an official document e g payslip p60 social welfare card Close your account To do this you will need valid photo I D passport or driving licence to withdraw your shares and close your account Transfer your account to another credit union If you have moved from the area and wish to transfer to a Credit Union closer to your current residence you can contact your nearest Credit Union to make the transfer Rule 22 Dormant accounts The Credit Union may deal with shares and deposit accounts as hereinafter provided when there has been no member initiated transaction on the account for a period of three years and when no reply has been received within thirty days from the member to a notice sent

    is any personal information which relates to a living individual The law sets out a series of standards which any person or entity must adhere to when collecting storing or using such data This law applies regardless of how trivial or non intrusive it may be or whether it is collected directly from the person in question or from another source Therefore relatively innocuous Personal Data such as a list of Members names addresses is covered by the Act just as much as details of wealth or income provided to support a loan application Types of Personal Data held Link Credit Union collects uses Personal Data such as the following In respect of members name address telephone email other contact details other information collected for Anti Money Laundering purposes internally generated information such as transactions balance details or arrears history income history and other information collected for lending insurance or other business purposes CCTV In respect of others Next of kin of Members Income or other information about spouses partners provided on a loan application Personal Data on non Members collected for nomination purposes CCTV Our legal obligations The key elements of the Data Protection Act 1988 are as follows The Data Protection Principles o Principle 1 Personal Data must be obtained processed fairly and lawfully o Principle 2 Personal Data must be kept only for specified explicit and legitimate purpose s o Principle 3 Personal Data must not be used or disclosed in a manner incompatible with those purposes o Principle 4 Personal Data must be protected against unauthorised access alteration disclosure or destruction or unlawful processing o Principle 5 Personal Data must be accurate complete and where necessary kept up to date o Principle 6 Personal Data must be adequate relevant and not excessive in relation to the

    Union Ltd Benefits of a Credit Union The Difference Between Credit Unions other Financial Providers Savings Shares Savings Current Accounts Schools Saving Scheme Life Savings Insurance My BugetBuddy Resources CU Online Help Section Forms Downloads FAQS Links Contact Us Home Tax Treatment of Dividend Tax Treatment of Dividend Tax Treatment of Dividend Budget 2014 contains the following provisions regarding Deposit Interest Retention Tax DIRT From 1st January 2014 all credit union share dividend and deposit interest paid to members will be subject to DIRT with the exception of dividend or interest paid to members who are exempt from DIRT The DIRT rate is 41 The only members who can be exempt are Members aged over 65 whose total income is less than the relevant limit currently 18 000 for an individual and 36 000 for a married couple For married couples only one of the spouses needs to be over 65 To avail of this exemption you must sign a self declaration form DE1 This form is available in your credit union and from our Forms Brochures menu This form is a declaration that you or your spouse are aged over 65 and that your total income is less than the relevant limit Members who are permanently incapacitated Such members should either contact their local Revenue Commissioners office directly or contact a service body such as the Irish Wheelchair Association Credit unions have no role in approving the exemption in these cases You can find a DIRT DE1 from in our Forms Brochures menu If you do not complete the self declaration form the credit union will be obliged to deduct DIRT from your dividend or interest You will then have to apply directly to the Revenue Commissioners for a refund of this DIRT if you are eligible If we

    in society who are normally overlooked by banks The history of the ILCU Foundation The ILCU Foundation was founded in 1980 and its mission is to alleviate poverty in developing countries by supporting credit unions their representative bodies and other co operative type organisations as a means for socio economic development through the provision of financial and technical assistance The ILCU Foundation was set up out of a responsibility to share the success of the Irish credit union movement with similar movements in developing and low income countries What type of work does the ILCU Foundation undertake The ILCU Foundation provides training for staff directors and volunteers in credit unions in developing countries to ensure that the credit union is run in the best possible manner It also helps to develop grassroots credit unions and guide more mature credit union movements through legislation and regulation The Credit Union Effect Shifine Mamo Member of Gerda Busa Credit Union making a difference the world over Profit earned from trading vegetables that she produced on her small farm has allowed widowed mum of four Shifine Mamo to send all of her children to school And following the recent graduation of her son from technical college she is determined that her other children will also finish their education 45 year old Shifine is a founder member of the village credit union established with support from the ILCU Foundation in Gerda Busa village Ethiopia eight years ago She has received several loans from the credit union and has used them to buy two half acre plots of land close to the village She has bought a pump and other equipment to irrigate the crops and now has two productive vegetable plots Shifine is now able to grow and sell several crops of onion tomato and
