  • UCD LawSoc - Eavan Boland Receives Honorary Lifetime Membership
    renowned poets and arguably the greatest female poet of our time was awarded Honorary Life Membership Addressing the FitzGerald Chamber Ms Boland read from some of her works and also spoke about her fears for poetry in the future In a socety where social networking sites and technology are starting to take hold poetry and writing are not viewed with the same respect as they were three or four decades ago You don t often get the chance to experience a literary great in person therefore it was a pleasure to witness such an event Eavan Boland addresses the Society A native of Dublin she spends most of the year lecturing in Stanford University California where she is the Bella Mabury and Eloise Mabury Knapp Professor in the Humanities Yeats Joyce Kavanagh and Heaney are only four of the giants of poetry and literature who have emerged from our small island An hour long English class lecture tutorial is the closest we get to developing an insight into their minds and their literary masterpieces Thousands of secondary school students have had the chance to study a selection of her poetry for the Leaving Certificate we won t mention 2010 which
