  • Stepping Stones Scholarship at the Irish World Academy | Irish World Academy of Music and Dance
    spirit of the Stepping Stones initiative equality of arts practices an interdisciplinary vision and desire to build bridges between arts practices applicants for programmes with a higher number of available places Application Process Applicants must apply for the programme through the normal university procedures In the application form where a candidate is asked to indicate how they will fund their study they should indicate that they will be applying for a Stepping Stones scholarship they should also include other forms of funding as appropriate The initial application for the scholarship should be coordinated by the course director of the programme If a candidate has been offered a place on the programme and wishes to apply for the scholarship they should send the following to the course director 1 A personal letter indicating how their application meets the scholarship criteria 2 A letter from one of the referees included on their application form indicating how their application meets the scholarship criteria Once the course director has received this information and is satisfied that he she would like to support this application to their programme he she should include a letter of support with the two letters from the applicant as well as a copy of the application form and any relevant audition materials This material should be forwarded to the Associate Director who will arrange to review applications with the Director and relevant course directors on a monthly basis between now and the beginning of the next academic year Further information Dr Helen Phelan Irish World Academy of Music Dance University of Limerick Limerick Ireland Phone 353 61 202575 Filed Under Outreach Scholarships Sorry comments are closed for this post Follow Us on Twitter 9 Feb Irish World Academy IWorldAcademy Getting ready for the launch today Exciting stuff RTERnaG UL IrishWorldAcademy

    singing The aim of this study is to look at the effect of different strategies in relieving stress in pregnancy Professor Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin Director of the Irish World Academy of Music Dance said The intersection of performing arts research and medical research is a rich area of exploration This study is a good example of the increasingly creative relationship between arts research at the Irish World Academy and the rapidly growing Medical School at UL The calming effect of music may be attributable to the fact that the normal tempo of music falls somewhere between 60 and 80 when measured on the metronome The average measure is approximately 72 which corresponds with the average adult human heartbeat There is additionally considerable evidence to suggest that listening to music and singing benefits both mother and infant The lullabies were taught by Kathleen Turner of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Oscar Mascareñas Director of the BA Voice Dance Irish World Academy of Music Dance Oscar Mascareñas said This study was quite compelling for me for personal reasons I remember my mother telling me that my father used to play the piano when she was expecting me And incredibly enough whenever I hear the pieces played by my father on the piano I feel a strange connection to my origins Some of the pieces I have never studied myself from the notation but strangely enough once more I am able to sing them play them on the violin and piano with ease I do believe that music has a powerful effect on the babies which influences through their whole life The lullabies taught included traditional Irish and international songs which have been serenading young children for centuries as well as more recent compositions including Close your eyes sweet love The Meadow and

  • Cónaí: Different Views on ‘The Second Coming’ by W.B. Yeats | Irish World Academy of Music and Dance
    the university Artists within the University Since its inception in 1994 the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance has invited artists to play a key role in its educational envirnoment This presentation traces the history of the artist in residence initiative at the Academy as well as the integration of artists into the resesearch endeavours of the university particularly through the Academy s Arts Practice PhD programme The presentation explores the unique contribution artists are making to the achievement of the teaching learning and research goals of higher education and the pioneering work of the Academy in the growing recognition of artist scholars in Irish universities Opportunities for collaborative research Fidget Feet the renowned aerial dance company are the artists in residence at the Aacdemy during the 2013 14 academic year During January 2014 they will be developing new work at the Academy based on the iconic poetry of W B Yeats To celebrate their work and explore the role of the artist in residence Fidget Feet will share their creative process in developing this piece Following this there will be a discussion with Fidget Feet academics and arts practitioners from the universities and third level institutions across Limerick on the relationship between arts practice and research the discussion will look in particular at the work of Yeats from different perspectives and practices Yeats Different Views The Second Coming is a collaborative performative project inspired by the work of W B Yeats which combines traditional Irish music song and dance with circus and theatre Initiated by Michael Rooney Fidget Feet and the Hawk s Well Theatre and thanks to a Traditional Arts Project Award this show is currently in production premiering in the Hawk s Well in May The show will be directed b Mikel Murfi who has worked
