    streamed to suit their performance needs Academically they study the same subjects 4 Q What do dancers study that is specific to them A Body awareness and dance technique body conditioning yoga ensemble work and of course various forms of dancing with an emphasis on Irish dance 5 Q What do musicians study that is specific to them A Keyboard skills ear notation theory incl composition and arrangement these areas are also studied by dancers so they can go on to train as secondary school music teachers ensemble work etc 6 Q What can I do afterwards career wise A There are many career options open to graduates of the BA Irish Music and Dance Some of these options include Professional Performance Music Technology e g recording studio producer technician Music Dance Therapy Community Music Dance Music Dance teacher Establish a management promotion company or work as an agent Arts administration e g Arts Officer Backstage work in performance theatre e g sound engineer Post graduate work in many different areas Media Tv Radio etc 7 Q What teachers will I have A Each student receives weekly one to one classes from a highly accomplished musician dancer with extensive teaching and performance experience for their main performance area Students work in small group classes for their second area Master classes are also provided with some of the top professional musicians dancers teachers for students in their first area 8 Q Can I take three or four instruments A Each student takes a first and second study either music or dance All students have to also take group classes in song and dance All students take keyboard skills 9 Q Will I get the chance to do work experience in an area that I am interested in A Yes each student has the opportunity to gain work experience in his or her area of interest in Semester 5 i e the 1st semester of 3rd Year 10 Q Will I get the chance to study abroad A Yes Each student is given the option of studying at a number of institutions around the world for Semester 6 i e the 2nd Semester of 3rd Year 11 Q Is the course aimed at competition style dancing only A No various aspects of Irish traditional dance are studied including sean nos old style step dancing set dancing and ceili dancing and also related dance forms for example Cape Breton step dance and Flamenco Irish traditional dance of every type is the central point of study 12 Q Do all musicians have to dance and or sing A Yes but we cater for all levels including beginners 13 Q Do all dancers have to sing and or play music A Yes but again you can be a complete beginner 14 Q Is this solely a performance programme A Performance and academic studies are equally important This gives the student more career opportunities on completing the course 15 Q What does the audition consist of

    about the course initially I was very impressed by the wide range of dance and song that was being offered in the course In dance it ranged from Irish dancing to contemporary In song it ranged from Gospel to Western Choral I was very excited to learn about and engage with new genres of voice and dance What is the course like The course is very diverse It has a good balance between practical and academic work which allows us to not only explore build and develop our creative sides but keeps us engaged in the academic work also Teachers are always very approachable and open to helping students out which is another bonus of being part of the Academy What do you enjoy about the course I really enjoy the uniqueness of Voice and Dance and its good atmosphere The course has given me many opportunities and experiences that I may never have gotten had I picked another course or University Opportunities I have been offered include learning how to record my own CD in the academy s recording studios the chance to work with great performers from all over the world during immersion weeks each semester the opportunity to take part in ensemble competitions and to do professional performances These are just some of the countless experiences and opportunities that I have engaged with throughout the 4 years What do you enjoy about UL and what the student life is like here UL is full of great facilities to suit everyone no matter what their interest The Sports arena situated up campus is fantastic for those who enjoy the gym swimming or dance and exercise classes The student villages are very well equipped and stylishly designed There is a wide variety of very reasonably priced restaurants and cafes

    performance The specific objectives are Students will cover 10 modules in total part time over 2 years or 1 year fulltime using CD Rom and workshops master classes Learners will develop skills in music and dance any genre is welcome For example music dance or voice may be taken as the learner s choice of second study Programme Structure Session 1 Practicum 1a is designed to enhance the learner s skill and knowledge surrounding main instrument and performance interest Practicum 1b is regarding a second performance interest band work song and dance Introduction to Traditional Music and Dance Studies 1 Contextualising and Vocational Studies 1 Popular Music and Dance Studies Audio Visual Technology Reflective Practice portfolio the student will be asked to keep a diary through out the course and reflect on their learning and experiences and engage reading about performance Session 2 Practicum 2a as 1a Practicum 2b as 1b Introduction to Traditional Music and Dance Studies 2 Contextualising and Vocational Studies 3 Music and Dance Education Community Music and Dance Traveller Music Studies Career Opportunities This qualification not only enhances performance skills but also opens doors to further study Pathway into certain degree progammes in the first instance successful completion of the course to the required standard will enable students to be considered for a place in second year of the fulltime BA in Music and Dance at the University of Limerick Criteria for progression will be based on a number of places available relevance of performance and academic achievement on the Certificate Will provide training in music literacy group playing and arrangement song and dance enabling the students to work in a variety of educational contexts both solo and group Dancers will experience ensemble choreography work and movement awareness Will develop academic literacy and presentation skills important
