  • Dr. Mary Nunan | Irish World Academy of Music and Dance
    worked as a performer choreographer and teacher with this Company for five years During this time she performed in original works created by prominent U S choreographers including Sara and Jerry Pearson Martha Bowers Martha Renzi Mark Taylor and Yoshiko Chuma She also created a number of choreographies and solo works which were performed as part of the Company s repertoire These programmes were toured extensively throughout Ireland and the UK Dancer in Residence In 1986 Mary was appointed Dancer in Residence in Thomond College of Education in Limerick Daghdha Dance Company In 1988 she founded Daghdha Dance Company mary nunan ul ie She was the Artistic Director of the Company from its inception until the time of her resignation in 1999 Under her Directorship Daghdha established itself as a Company with a unique and highly acclaimed artistic identity Works she choreographed for the Company were performed by invitation at venues throughout Ireland and at international dance festivals in Berlin Munich Paris Barcelona London and Mexico In 1997 Mary collaborated with film director Donal Haughey to produce a screen adaptation of her dance theatre work Territorial Claims which was premiered at the Cork Film Festival and selected for screening at the Lincoln Centre s prestigious Dance for Camera Festival in New York Independent Choreographic Commissions Mary has also choreographed for other companies Most recently she collaborated as a choreographer and performer in The Yellow Room 2003 and 2x2x5 2001 for Daghdha Dance Company under the directorship of Yoshiko Chuma She was commissioned by Irelands first International Dance Festival of Dance to create a work for it s 2002 Season This solo entitled Claim Reclaim was created and performed in collaboration with cellist Ferenc Szucs In July 2001 She choreographed a Site Specific work On the Waters Edge in collaboration with Myriad Dance Company for Wexford Youth Dance Company For the National Folk Theatre Siamsa Tire she 1999 she choreographed Clann Lir again in collaboration with the core company of professional dancers In September 1999 she performed in the Secret Project a Half Angel Firkin Crane production which was completed during a residency and at the Banff Arts Centre in Canada Choreographic Research As and independent artist Mary is interested in focussing her creative energy into researching and renewing aspects of her choreography To this end she has been greatly assisted being invited to participate as a choreographer in two choreographic residencies at the Institute for Choreography and Dance at the Firkin Crane in Cork In January 2002 she was invited by internationally renowned mentor Peter Bonham to undertake a three week choreographic residency with his professional dance company Le Groupe in Ottawa Canada She is currently involved in on going research and performance projects with independent artist Joan Davis Contact Details Mary Nunan Room No IW1 21 Irish World Academy of Music and Dance University of Limerick Limerick Ireland tel 353 61 213464 fax 353 61 202589 e mail mary nunan ul ie Filed Under Academic Staff Sorry comments are

  • Dr. Óscar Mascareñas | Irish World Academy of Music and Dance
    Irish television and radio Óscar is also a Latin American music performer He has arranged performed produced and recorded Latin music for the past 23 years He has presented his research in Ireland Hungary the UK and Mexico and has been invited to lead workshops and multidisciplinary projects in different institutions including the University of Bristol and the Manchester Metropolitan University UK the University of the State of Nuevo León and the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey Mexico His works have been performed in Ireland the UK and Mexico and have won acclaim for their contribution to the development of multidisciplinary works for voice and movement His written work poetry and essays has been published in Ireland Hungary Slovakia and Mexico From December 2003 to November 2005 he was Assistant Course Director of the Master of Arts in Chant and Ritual Song programme at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance and from December 2005 to January 2007 Acting Course Director of the same programme He founded and directed the Gregorian chant ensemble Musica Disciplina and for a number of years was a guest director of the vocal ensemble Lucernarium at the University of Limerick With both ensembles he produced a chant CD Vox Prophetica and co produced a choral chant CD Cuairt Mhuire Visitation in May 2005 He was the Executive Artistic Director of the Second Asia Europe Foundation ASEF Music Camp I mPULSE GOL A Gathering of Voices from Asia and Europe organised by ASEF and the Irish World Academy in November 2005 Óscar is the founding course director of the BA in Voice and Dance at the Academy 2008 to 2013 and currently a full time researcher and lecturer in the same institution He is the founder conductor of the Irish ensemble HIBERNIA which specialises in the performance of early music from a contemporary perspective and is also guest conductor of the Sinfonietta orchestra of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León UANL and the Chamber Orchestra of the Universidad Regiomontana both in Monterrey Mexico Óscar is also the founding Chair of the Cage Cunningham Professorship in Contemporary Performance at the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey of the National Institute for the Fine Arts in Mexico He has recently been selected to be one of 18 speakers for the TEDx event in Monterrey Mexico TEDxYouth GarzaGarcía which will be transmitted online at the TEDx YouTube channel in mid November He is active member of various professional associations such as the Irish Association of Mexican Studies the Network of Mexican Professionals in Ireland CANTUS PLANUS from the International Musicological Society and the Institute for the Study of Knowledge in Society ISKS amongst others In the Irish World Academy he currently teaches improvisation and composition musical palaeography and semiotics vocal performance Latin American music and dance Western choral music and voice skills for performance His research interests cover a wide range of subjects including music and dance performance contemporary practice music education early
