    for in advance Having a clear view of your training competition plans alongside your life goals is very productive approach to planning ahead Key Points What tasks are left to complete to put yourplans into place Now that you have re established equilibrium have you looked a bit further ahead Have you looked at your sport and life goals in tandem to see if there are any clashes Where are you heading to have you thought about the next cycle Where are you heading to have you thought about life after sport What support do you need with this type of planning and plan implementation Life Skills Development 1 Public Speaking How to tell your story and create a following You have returned from the Games with many stories you can tell and probably some you can t Many will be asked to speak in front of or to a range of audiences from local schools to corporate or sporting organisations This session will help you to decide on and create a story that will be interesting insightful and educational for whatever audience you step in front of The support in this area will help you to develop a product that you can adapt in the future and ensure that you come across in a professional manner Key Points What should I talk about What will this audience want to know about my experience at the Games and in sport How do I structure the talk Should I make it interactive How long is too long How do I stop on time What should I bring Do I talk of develop a presentation What support do you need to develop a professional presence Life Skills Development 2 Managing your personal finances budgeting pensions and saving schemes In returning from a Games campaign you may have found yourself putting off certain tasks This maybe one of those things that was put on the long finger Your return to training potentially a change in personal circumstances or even a change in location in preparation for the next steps in your life or career may require paying specific attention to this area This support will help you to evaluate your current status and educate you about some financial decisions you may be looking at This is a useful session for all even if you haven t got any major financial decisions looming I m not very good with money who can help Looking at my current plans how do I make sure that I manage my budget well If my involvement in sport finished today what position would I be in How do I make provision for the future How do I work out what funding and finance I need for the coming weeks months Performance Transition 1 Managing the return to work or education Once the dust has settled on your return and your have decided on a direction for your life either in tandem with your future sporting aspirations or instead

    recent post Game family support event offers family members of the 2012 Olympic Boxing team with an opportunity to access best practice advice around the psychology of the post Games period media management and career planning We are delighted to provide this important support Gerry Hussey Performance Psychologist Irish Olympic Boxing Team delivering a presentation to family members on the psychological challenges associated with the post Games period Billy Walsh Head Coach Irish Olympic Boxing Team Billy Walsh formally thanked family members for providing such great support to the boxing team pre during and after the Games Billy shared his experience of the post Games period as an athlete and a coach and provided clear support steps to the families that are designed to assist the boxers as they transition during the post Games period Gerry Hussey Performance Psychologist Irish Olympic Boxing Team Gerry Hussey provided family members with key insights into the psychology attached to the post Games period Family members were given key tips and insights into how to manage some of the typical psychological responses during this time Daragh Sheridan Head of Performance Skills Irish Institute of Sport Daragh Sheridan provided families in attendance in with some of the key workshop dates available to boxers as they manage their post Games transition In addition Daragh provided family members with some support information concerning the management of the media and sponsors Billy Walsh Head Coach Irish Olympic Boxing Team stated The families of the 2012 Olympic Boxing Team played a crucial role in ensuring the team remained focused and productive in the Games environment The pre Games family support event on June 30 th played a key role in ensuring that the family support was informed and aligned with best practice It is our aim to provide a

    the World Anti Doping Agency s Prohibited List and is prohibited in competition Methlyhexanamine is increasingly being found in nutritional supplements typically those that are designed to increase energy or aid weight loss Various names of methylhexanamine include 1 3 dimethylamylamine DMAA Dimethylpentylamine DMP Geranamine Geranium Oil Floradene 4 methyl 2 hexanamine C7H17N Forthane Many products sold as dietary supplements openly list this substance on their labels A list of known products containing methylhexanamine is as follows Jack3D USP Labs Lipo 6 Black Nutrex Hemo Rage Black Nutrex Spirodex Gaspari Nutrition F 10 Advanced Genetics 1 M R BMI Sports Hemorush Nutrabolics Hemodrene Nutrabolics Napalm Muscle Warfare NOTE This list should not be viewed as including every potential product containing methylhexanamine While the Irish Sports Council urged all athletes to check the content of supplements they choose to use it stated that the real risk for athletes is the fact that the true ingredients of a supplement may not be listed on the label at all Prohibited substances may be introduced to supplements for their effects but left off the label or may be introduced inadvertently through cross contamination With the integrity of the ingredients not being able to be

    to manage typical demands during this period Paddy Barnes Bronze Medallist 2008 2012 Games promoting the Institute s Post Game Athlete Support Guide Billy Walsh Head Coach Irish Olympic Boxing Team stated The post Games period is a crucial part of our athlete support plan I am uniquely aware of the challenges attached to adjusting to the post Games period My experience of competing and coaching at 4 Olympic Games has highlighted this period as a critical priority within our athlete support plan The Institute of Sport have started the first phase of this process and we are delighted to access these services I urge all athletes to reach out and use the supports that are available The Institute s Performance Transition Programme operates through 3 critical principles Recover Refocus Re energize Each principle contains a set of services designed to support athletes as they adjust to their games experience For more information on the programme click here As part of the programme offering the Institute have recruited 3 top programme ambassadors who have had an experience of managing the games experience After Beijing I experienced a profound and unexpected emotional challenge around the post Games come down At the time it was difficult to understand what was happening and I d have really appreciated having the support that the Institute now offers to athletes in this period Gearoid Towey Olympian 2008 Games I was fortunate to compete at 6 Paralympic Games When I retired after the 2008 Games it was a real challenge to adjust as I did not have a clear plan in place for the retirement transition Support from the Institute was critical in assisting me to make a successful transition My fears around retirement were put to rest through the great support that I received Patrice

    lead physiotherapist with Rowing Ireland travelling extensively with the team for training camps and international regatta She also works with Swim Ireland s High Performance Centre in Dublin She is a trained Pilates instructor has recently completed a Masters in Exercise Science in Strength and Conditioning and is also trained in the use of dry needling Sarah Jane member of the 2008 and 2012 Team Ireland Dr SHARON MADIGAN Performance Nutritionist Sharon is the performance nutritionist at the Institute and is responsible for delivery and coordination of nutrition services for elite Irish athletes across a range of sports Since 2003 she has worked as the performance nutritionist with the High Performance Boxing Team working with young developing boxers right up to our elite international team An active interest in weight category sports means that she is now working with a number of other athletes in sports such as rowing and judo From 2002 2009 Sharon helped deliver nutrition services at the Sports Institute Northern Ireland to a range of funded athletes Part of this role included the provision of nutrition education to the Ulster Rugby Academy From 2008 2011 she was the performance dietitian with the Senior Ulster Rugby Team and has been involved with a number of County and Club GAA teams over the last number of years including Down Donegal Derry football and hurling and the Dublin Hurling team Sharon and Boxing coach Billy Walsh arrive in London KEN LYNCH Head of Talent Development Ken joined the Institute in August 2008 from the Peter Snell Institute of Sport in New Zealand and is responsible for leading the Institute s work to support athletes successfully combine elite training and study He established the Institute of Sport Athlete Support Programme to help create an environment where elite athletes can combine

    is a great facility which provides vital support to some of our top athletes by helping them to compete at the highest level of international sport It s also a key part of the National Sports Campus and I m pleased to see that athletes are already using the facilities available at Abbotstown as well as equipment provided under the Sports Capital Programme With the London Olympics just a few weeks away theInstitute of Sport is a good example of how we can support our athletes even in these difficult times In addition Institute staff are embedded in the support teams of 9 sports which resulted in the delivery of 1 100 hours of support services to athletes and coaches in 2011 John Treacy Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council highlighted the medicine and other services delivered on site The clinics have proven to be ahuge success athletes are utilising the services expertise and facilities at the Institute It is one of the many Institute initiatives that are making a practical difference to the athletes training and performance The Athlete Transition Programme is a very important project undertaken by the Institute which aims both to improve the current regime for athletes and to assist them when their sporting careers are over It has profiled more than 200 potential Olympic and Paralympic athletes and this has identified the additional service requirements that are required Crucially the Programme identifies the needs of an athlete after a major games a gap in the system which had been identified by athletes over the years Gary Keegan Director of the Institute spoke about the importance of the Athlete Transition Programme The Institute is putting in place supports for athletes for every phase of their careers It is important to highlight the work of The
