    activities with industry have been funded via schemes such as Enterprise Ireland Innovation Vouchers and Partnerships Science Foundation Ireland TIDA grants and EU FP7 and Interreg supports while a significant base of privately contracted research work has been built up from the specialist research expertise available within the Institutes The excellent researchers which characterise the specialist centres and groups have a long track record of securing postgraduate and postdoctorate support for research including research council SFI Marie Curie and ERC awards Our work to stimulate innovation across enterprises also includes Incubation Units available across all Institutes the New Frontiers programme which supports new start ups and the 13 Applied Research Enhancement ARE centres which provide specialist focused RDI support directly to industry The research development and innovation strategy across the Institutes of Technology is set out in the paper Strategically Oriented Impact Focused Research Development and Innovation across the Institutes of Technology The paper supplemented by detailed evidence and analysis in a series of annexes was produced by the IOTI Heads of Research Group and can be accessed using the links below It sets out 8 guiding principles which have been endorsed by the IOTI Board Working with all our stakeholders to define current and future priorities Building on critical mass in specialist research areas Delivering postgraduate provision at Level 9 and Level 10 which drives impact focused research activity Attracting high quality postgraduate and postdoctorate resources to our Institutes Establishing and maintaining a research foundation funding programme which ensures a pipeline of postgraduate students in respective IoT specialist areas Benchmarking research performance through establishment of strategic international partnerships Complimenting national grants with EU funding wherever feasible Embedding sufficient research and postgraduate management infrastructure Download Strategically Oriented Impact Focused Research Development and Innovation in the Institutes of Technology and the

    find details on how to apply for this exciting programme The IHSP intiative was launched as a pilot programme on March 17th 2010 St Patricks Day in Washington D C by An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen Programme Introduction This new pilot programme aims to encourage the children grandchildren and great grandchildren of Irish nationals and non resident passport holders residing outside of the European Union to return to Ireland for their Higher Education studies The participating Institutes of Technology recognize the important role that the Irish Diaspora plays in promoting Irish Culture and Trade Students who participate in this programme will have the opportunity to study at one of Irelands Institutes of Technology Students who qualify will benefit from the new Irish Diaspora tuition fee For the first time the Irish Diaspora have been recognised and rewarded by the Irish state through the creation of a reduced tuition fee for the non EU resident Irish Diaspora Students will also have the opportunity to live with Irish families during their stay in Ireland further adding to the students cultural experience and strengthening the students cultural link with Ireland Irish Diaspora The Irish Diaspora consists of Irish emigrants and their descendants in
