    s Allowance Temporary Teachers Holiday Pay Substitute Teachers School Accommodation School Funding School Insurance School Leadership School Transport and Ancillary Staff School Year Social Inclusion Special Education Staffing Staff Relations Staff Reps Taxation and PRSI Teacher Special Interest Groups The Teaching Council Payment of Salary Understanding your payslip pdf 202 kb Haddington Road Agreement Paycuts July 2013 Method of Payment Permanent and Temporary Teachers Permanent and temporary teachers salaries are paid by the Department of Education and Skills and issue from the Department offices in Athlone Co Westmeath every second Wednesday Accordingly teachers receive salary 26 times per year normally on a Thursday The DES operate a PayPath facility through which a permanent or fixed term teacher may opt to have her his salary paid directly to a bank or building society account A pay slip stating gross and net pay and giving details of deductions made from salary tax PRSI VHI INTO Comhar Linn etc will also be sent directly to an address nominated by the teacher Over payments Government Departments are authorised under existing financial procedures to seek the refund of overpayments The entitlement to recover overpayments is provided for in Rule 107 2 of the Rules for National Schools When a teacher has been overpaid it is normal practice for the Department of Education and Skills Financial Section to contact the teacher in order to arrange for the recovery of the overpayment either through a refund or through instalments A teacher who becomes aware that s he is being overpaid should contact the DES at the earliest opportunity For further information refer to Circular 15 04 Policy and Procedures for Dealing with Overpayment of Salary Allowance Ensuring Prompt Payment Teachers on appointment to schools in a permanent fixed term capacity should complete the Primary Appointment re appointment

    Relations Staff Reps Taxation and PRSI Teacher Special Interest Groups The Teaching Council Acting Up Allowance There is provision for the payment of an acting up allowance where either a principal or a deputy principal assistant principal is absent from school for a minimum period of 1 month on unpaid leave e g career break or on paid leave in certain circumstances e g sick leave and maternity leave It is the responsibility of the chairperson of the board of management to apply to the DES on behalf of the teacher for the appropriate allowance The appropriate form which should be returned to the DES is the POR amend from available for download on the DES website The board should specify the duties entailed in the post and confirm that the teacher has carried out these duties In the event of the appointment of an existing post holder to an acting up position carrying a higher allowance e g deputy principal to acting principal the allowance paid is the difference between the allowance that the teacher has and the higher allowance of the temporary acting up post Where a permanent post holder is on paid leave of absence e g

    Leadership School Transport and Ancillary Staff School Year Social Inclusion Special Education Staffing Staff Relations Staff Reps Taxation and PRSI Teacher Special Interest Groups The Teaching Council Teachers Children s Allowance Children s Allowance is paid to national teachers who were in service on 31 December 1979 Those who entered or returned to the service after 31 December 1979 do not have an entitlement to Children s Allowance as this scheme was terminated on 1 January 1980 The allowance is paid for each child under 16 years of age or under 21 years if in full time education The rate of allowance for each eligible child is currently 115 per annum effective from September 2009 Application for Children s Allowance should be made directly to the Payments Section Department of Education and Skills Athlone Co Westmeath A special form Form API is provided for this purpose In regard to an initial application it is necessary to enclose a copy of the child s birth certificate Application for benefit must be renewed on an annual basis and the Department of Education and Skills normally issues forms for this purpose in April each year Completed application forms must be signed by the
