    slippage in this time scale should be notified immediately to the appropriate INTO Area District Representative or to Northern Office NB In the case of redundancies arising from a school closure and where the teacher s are redeployed the provision of the Collective Agreement on School Rationalisation in so far as they refer to Travel and House Removal will apply Back to Top Redundancies due to School Amalgamations In every case of school amalgamation INTO will insist that there will be no enforced redundancy in the year of amalgamation or in the year immediately thereafter This policy is strictly in accordance with the Collective Agreement on School Rationalisation Should redundancy situations occur following this period of protection they must be dealt with in accordance with the agreed guidelines for the handling of Teacher Redundancies Those members wishing to utilise the scheme for Premature Retirement due to Redundancy at the time of the amalgamation should obtain advice assistance from their appropriate Area District Representative of Northern Office Members should note that the Premature Retirement Scheme applies only to teachers aged 50 years or over on the day prior to the date of amalgamation The employers are required to notify Northern Office of each proposal for amalgamation On receipt of this information Northern Office will notify members in the schools concerned In liaison with the INTO School and Area District Representatives in the schools concerned meetings will be held to obtain members views on the proposal and to provide advice assistance to members Views of members on the proposal will be communicated to the employers for the purposes of consultation INTO will only sign the Collective Agreement when it is satisfied that members views have been properly considered and any concerns have been satisfactorily resolved Back to Top IMPORTANT Redundancy means dismissal and the loss of a teacher s livelihood It is imperative that all INTO Representatives co ordinate their activities in any redundancy situation Every member should be assured that s he has the full support of the Organization at such a time The Organization s Representatives are available at every level to members faced by a redundancy situation Appendix 1 Guidelines for the Handling of Teacher Redundancies in Grant Aided Schools in Northern Ireland The Guidelines for the Handling of Teacher Redundancies have been agreed in the Teachers Salaries and conditions of Service Negotiating Committee Schools The Guidelines apply to teacher redundancies in all grant aided schools Employing authorities and Unions recognise the need to deal with redundancy situations in the fairest possible way In order to ensure as far as is reasonably practicable that teachers facing redundancy may benefit from arrangements for availing of opportunities for redeployment seeking alternative employment or Premature Retirement it is noted that 4 calendar months notice is required to terminate the contract on the last of the months of August or September The statutory position with regard to the right to time off with pay to look for another job or to make arrangements

    containing Information on developing or updating your school s guidelines on managing students with chronic health conditions Standardised healthcare plan and template forms letters that can be adapted to meet your school s information need for each student with a chronic condition Clear outline of parents teachers and board of management responsibilities to aid communication and expectations of all parties in managing a student with a chronic condition on a daily basis Practical information including an Emergency Plan on each condition for teachers and guidance on safe storage and safe disposal of medications at school According to Elaine Newell this resource pack aids communication between all parties and provides various tools so school personnel are informed on each condition The first step in supporting a student with a chronic health condition is removing the fear of the unknown So with the support of the INTO we also produced a 9 minute DVD on managing each condition at school These short DVDs are available to view from the links below When a teacher is informed that a student with one of these conditions will be in their class as a first step they should take the time to view the relevant DVD Please note that the links below are to external sites If the DVD you are looking for is not listed below please contact the relevant organisation for further information Diabetes Society DVD Brainwave the Irish Epilepsy Association DVD Catherine Murphy a teacher in Cork states from a teacher s perspective having a student with diabetes in the class is manageable as long as resources are in place These would include information on the student s condition regular contact with the student s parents and in addition an Emergency Plan in the staffroom so that all staff can see the

    General secretary criticizes ICT provision Over the next six years some 3 8bn in capital funding will be invested in education projects An additional 200m in PPP funding will result in more than 4bn in public investment The programme will fund the construction of 62 000 additional school places at primary and post primary level to address demographic demand Funding will also be available for the refurbishment of schools in older buildings that require improvement The plan also provides for investment of 210m in ICT and wireless broadband capacity in schools The plan includes funding to replace prefabs with permanent accommodation INTO general secretary Sheila Nunan said schools all over the country would wait for specific details before passing judgement on the plan She said schools requiring new or refurbished premises will want to see specific completion dates Most primary schools have completely inadequate broadband and out of date ICT equipment she said The funding in place is well below what was generally recognised as inadequate a decade ago She called for this figure to be reviewed as a matter of priority Date Wednesday 30 September 15 About INTO Aims and Structure National Committees INTO Head Office Benefits and Discounts
