    the last week December 7 2014 Share Tweet By Ciarán Hanna Gardaí in Cork are investigating the sudden deaths of two homeless men in the city over the last week An extra 200 emergency beds will be made available to the homeless in Dublin by Christmas Dublin Simon Community s soup run and rough sleeper teams said they have seen a drastic increase in the numbers of people looking for help A 28 year old died in the Mercy Hospital on 5th December days after collapsing in a public area on North Main Street in Cork On 29th November another man was found in the toilets of a fast food outlet in the city centre Gardaí said both men were users of homeless services and are awaiting the results of post mortem examinations and toxicology tests Cork Simon Community has said rough sleeping in Cork is reaching crisis levels During October it reached its highest level in 4 years Our Emergency Shelter is literally overflowing with the extra beds we added almost two years ago fully occupied every night With winter upon us and all our services under increasing pressure we re very concerned for the weeks ahead Rough sleeping in Cork According to Cork Simon Community 256 people slept rough for at least one night during the ten month period to the end of October 2014 a 45 increase compared to the same period in 2013 The charity met 84 people sleeping rough in Cork during October 2014 with an average of 19 people per night spending nights on the streets Focus Ireland in Cork said that all beds associated with shelters in Cork were typically full meaning there were around ten or more rough sleepers a night in the city for whom a bed was not available Comments

    Obama is conditional and only applies to those with children however the charity says all long term undocumented workers should be included Migrant Rights Centre Ireland MRCI demonstration www mrci ie Edel McGinley Director of MRCI said Undocumented people in Ireland face the same struggles the same challenges and the same sacrifices as the undocumented Irish in the US We estimate that there are up to 26 000 undocumented adults and children living in Ireland today and they are in the exact same legal limbo as undocumented migrants in the US The M R C I also argues that keeping workers illegal is actually costing the state money if their situation was regularised they could contribute up to 18 5 million in income tax Ms McGinley added that some of these families have been here for 20 years The situation is particularly distressing for young people who have grown up in Ireland they will have little or no hope as they approach their 18th birthday They are not entitled to access third level education or even to work legally yet Ireland is the only home they know President Michael D Higgins met undocumented workers when he opened a drop in centre for migrants and refugees on October 3rd this year Almost 100 countries Undocumented migrants in Ireland come from 96 different countries the majority are from the Philippines China Brazil Pakistan and Mauritius Most enter the state legally often on work permits however if these expire or are not renewed then workers become undocumented According to the MCRI the majority of undocumented migrants are in employment and have contributed tax here at some stage Unable to return Jayson Montenegro an undocumented migrant who has lived and worked in Ireland for over 10 years said Earlier this year my father died

    substantially higher It is undoubtedly one of the biggest cocaine finds ever made in Northern Ireland To put this in context over a three year period from 2011 12 to 2013 14 PSNI seized a total of 49 kilos of cocaine in 1 053 seizure incidents This is an average of 47g per seizure incident There were only two seizures of 3 kilos or more Half of all seizures were of just 1g or less Last night we got 50 kilos PSNI Around 20 kg of cocaine was also seized by Dutch Police at a port in the Netherlands Dutch police believe the shipment was bound for County Fermanagh No arrests were made in either seizure Stormont Justice Minister David Ford said the seizure would undoubtedly prevent more misery and possibly save lives Herbal Cannabis worth 4 5m was discovered by Revenue s Customs Service hidden into more than 1 000 tins of olives on 26th November in Dublin Port Around 200kgs of the drug was divided into small parcels that were double vacuum packed and officials believe the drugs arrived from Spain and were destined for the UK Thanks Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA Tom Elliott said I would like to congratulate the Police on last night s major drugs seizure in Ballygawley in which 50kgs of cocaine valued at more than 2 5 million Thanks are also due to Dutch authorities who in a separate operation seized 20kg of cocaine which was believed to be bound for Fermanagh Last but by no means least I would like to congratulate the Gardaí for their actions in sizing 3 6m of cannabis at Dublin port Mr Elliott said the huge scale and international nature of these seizures emphasise very clearly the role played by international crime gangs in the drugs trade The sums involved in the drugs trade indicate that these criminal gangs are not hampered by a lack of resources It is imperative that the forces of law and order which are trying to combat them are given all the resources they require to keep our cities towns and villages free from the scourge of drugs The MLA added that he feared the lack of a fully functioning National Crime Agency in Northern Ireland is turning our Province into the favoured European distribution hub for drug gangs who view us as an easy back door route to peddle their poison in the United Kingdom Other Seizures Co Cork Gardaí have seized cannabis herb with a street value of up to 60 000 as part of an ongoing operation into the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Cork area The drugs were found following a search of a house at Ballycotton Midleton on 26th November A man in his 40 s was arrested and he was detained at Midleton Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks Drug
