thought it was just a cover idea to get drunk and hang out but Evan perseveres with these idiots but as they re driving home from their first case the capture of a skateboarder teen who egged them all they hit something Something big that leaves tentacles and green goo behind Nearby they find a strange globe that blows shit up but then later it gets even stranger when they re called by Manfred R Lee Ermey some of you remember him as the shouty Sergeant in Full Metal Jacket and find something hiding in his back garden a giant toothy Predator like alien who has just finished disemboweling and eating Manfred Evan saves the day though hitting the beast with a flowerpot and causing it to fall and break its neck They take it back to Bob s wicked basement man cave swear eternal secrecy and then party like the film and Hello magazine rights have already been sold But this bad boy isn t dead yet and he escapes it seems like he s getting ready to summon his friends and launch an invasion of earth starting in our special town And the boys of the Neighbourhood Watch can t allow that As you might be able to tell this seems like a bit of an odd set up Comedy comedy certainly there s plenty of bawdy humour gross gags and endless improvisation especially from Vaughn who is always a laugh but too often you keep thinking Wait Aren t there aliens going round the town butchering people and taking their skin Shouldn t you be doing something about that When the end turns into a full on special effects alien rampage the guys with their guns blazing as they try to stop the invasion all the forced

  • Movie Review – Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter » Inside Ireland
side he was a kick arse vampire hunter His secret diary tells the story here when his mother was deliberately killed by vampire Jack Barts Marton Csokas after young Abraham went to the aid of slave boy Lincoln Walker grew up lusting for revenge Barts is no pushover though he can t be killed even with a bullet to the eye and it s only Henry Cooper who saves Lincoln s skin and makes him an offer he ll teach him everything about being a vampire hunter but in return he must give up the chance for a normal life no friends no family With this chance to be a superhero on the table Lincoln agrees and trains up with his beloved silver edged axe He arrives in Illinois and works in a store by day with Joshua Speed Simpson and by night he gets to work following Henry s letters and dealing with the local bloody scary big teethed vampires who are grabbing all and sundry and especially slaves and shipping them South for food to Adam Sewell and his cronies Then that young slave boy Will Mackie comes back in to his life and Lincoln meets a woman Mary Todd Mary Elizabeth Winstead He becomes involved in politics and finds himself balancing his secret life with his normal life and of course Henry said that was something he couldn t have There is a real price to pay now and with Civil War on the horizon between the anti slavery North and the pro slavery South Lincoln as President finds himself against a deadly army Adam has cut a deal to send his men to fight for the South after all the vampires want freedom too Directed by a contemporary master of the genre Timur Bekmambetov who also directed Angelina in Wanted though check out his earlier amazing Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch too has again bought some serious action to the screen There s plenty of acrobatic fighting here and tons of black blood plus a couple of sequences in particular a horse stampede and a train crossing a burning bridge are truly exciting and stunning to watch even if they begin to seem like a comic This is historical fantasy action stuff of the highest order and everyone plays their part Sure the heavy computer SFX makes mincemeat of the period gorgeousness and makes you worry whether movies will one day stop shooting out of doors at all but using a so simple it s brilliant idea from Seth Grahame Smith s novel who also co wrote the script this is great summer entertainment with an appealing historical flavor You may well ask what or who is next Comments Comments are closed Latest Blog Blog Involvement in elections is a most remarkable wearying voluntary thing yet it is democracy in action With the British General Election over and Dáil by elections on 22nd May this month s blog looks at the experience of someone

  • Prometheus review » Inside Ireland
000 year old paintings match others across the world and amazingly all of them correspond to a point in a far off star system Several years later and the multi cultural crew of 17 are on board Prometheus and heading for this celestial rendezvous Shaw and Holloway are along for the ride as well as by the book company representative Vickers Theron and captain Janek Elba though it s Peter O Toole loving robot David Fassbender who wakes them from their long artificial sleep Arriving on a planet they find a huge colony like structure waiting for them and when they go inside to explore they find the body of a huge bizarre creature countless bullet shaped cones and a huge statue of what seems to be a human head This colony is more than meets the eye though and when two crew members are accidentally left behind during a violent storm the cones begin to melt A science fiction action horror movie for the new millennium Prometheus looks truly amazing in 3D and the story certainly makes heavy use of the wow factor weaving an at times complex narrative about faith life and humanity and posing the question which Elizabeth and the remaining members of the crew plus a hidden human stowaway find out too late if these ancient astronauts were human like us then what did we do wrong Despite the evocative beginning that gives David a sense of humanity something robots are meant to lack especially when he s a loyal programmed company robot the script ironically struggled to make anyone else anywhere near human The relationship between Elizabeth and Charlie had something of course but it was quickly torn asunder and once the action finally started it was thick and fast stuff and there s wasn t room for much else There were other opportunities for that human element a family rivalry secret betrayal and of course the ethical fear elements that should cause conflict when you discover a new species but then see it go badly wrong but it s all kind of glossed over Once someone starts making the classic eternal horror mistakes any of the depth that was clearly being targeted is lost in a long stream of plot holes inexplicable decisions and a shocking lack of people checking security cameras or saying Hang on a minute Whether you see this as a prequel or a sequel and there are certainly a number of touch points both visually and even in the dialogue to the other movies is it an equal It s certainly entertaining and stunning to look at but it doesn t evoke the emotion that you need either when you re thinking that there s no God or whether you see the characters running for their lives Comments Comments are closed Latest Blog Blog Involvement in elections is a most remarkable wearying voluntary thing yet it is democracy in action With the British General Election over and Dáil by elections
