    WEST TOURISM FUNDRAISING GALA DINNER BALL Celebrating an Independent Shannon Airport The Shannon Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation IHF is holding a Gala Dinner on Monday 29 th April 2013 as part of a drive to raise funds for local tourism initiatives in the Mid West The Black Tie event which will be held at the four star Limerick Strand Hotel is the first ever tourism gathering to celebrate the separation of Shannon Airport and the creation of a new tourism structure for the region The event is open to all tourism businesses and organisations in the region and is an ideal social networking occasion Attracting holidaymakers to the mid west region remains a significant challenge for tourism businesses requiring a redoubling of efforts to promote the region as a vibrant and attractive destination says Matt Muller Chairman of the IHF Shannon Branch We look forward to working closely with Shannon Airport and playing their part in marketing the airport as a tourism hub for wider Shannon region Our local tourism fundraising drive is a key part of this wider effort Event Mid West Tourism Fundraising Gala Dinner Time 7pm drinks reception Date Monday 29 th April 2013 Venue

  • €400,000 Muckross Suite refurbishment at The Malton, Killarney | Irish Hotels Federation
    Conor Hennigan General Manager at The Malton said Originally the ballroom was mainly used for conferences and business events and while this continues to form a very significant part of our business we also now have a new focus on our very successful wedding market and a more discerning conference client and so we decided it was time that the room reflected this Last year alone we hosted 110 events consisting of Gala Banquets Weddings and Events The upgraded ballroom sees a more flexible offering with an upmarket backdrop that can be dressed according to needs ideal for both weddings and corporate events A sophisticated lighting system has been installed that facilitates colour changes which can change the ambience of the entire room In addition new chandeliers have been introduced which add sparkle and glamour to the room something so many brides insist on Full height decorative mirrors silver metallic wall coverings and silver paint have all been added to the walls to brighten the space and in the evening light these add sparkle and interest as they reflect the lighting chandeliers and the general room atmosphere The new carpet incorporates a pattern bespoke with the background based on The Malton s 19 th century history with over layers of fleur de lis As part of the refurbishment a new bar has also been added to the ballroom This offers a more flexible space which can be closed off from the room as required Conor said The addition to the room allows the bar to be part of the overall space containing the atmosphere within the overall ballroom something so many couples look for on their Big Day The 400 000 refurbishment project was led by Nikki O Donnell of NODA who was also responsible for the new look Reception

  • ITAS (Irish Tourist Assistance Service) launch its annual statistics | Irish Hotels Federation
    to ITAS followed by Garda Stations in counties Wicklow Galway Kerry and Louth There were 12 cases of violent crimes against tourists referred in 2012 These included aggravated thefts assaults and robberies Crimes mostly occurred when tourists were sightseeing shopping and generally relaxing in restaurants and cafés The majority of crimes referred to the service occurred between the hours of 2 6pm in Dublin City Centre The victims tended to be female and aged between 17 25yrs 44 different nationalities were assisted by ITAS in 2012 German nationals 131 tourists made up the largest category referred to the Service This was followed by Italian 111 tourists French 94 tourists British 76 tourists American 72 tourists and Spanish 69 tourists Speaking at the launch Lord Mayor Naoise Ó Muirí said Being a tourist victim of crime can be an extremely traumatic experience Tourists have specific needs that must be met It is reassuring to know that ITAS are on hand to respond to these needs with staff and volunteers being on hand 7 days a week to support tourists in these stressful situations Lisa Kennedy Chief Executive of ITAS believes the organisation has a valuable role to play within the tourism industry She said ITAS is in a position to offer immediate support to tourist victims of crime The shock and panic they initially feel is replaced with a sense of calm By being on hand to assist them during this distressing time ensures they return home with a more positive perception of Ireland and may consider returning one day Commenting at the event Dick Bourke Chairman of ITAS urges the industry to support the Service Ireland is leading the way in terms of the support it provides to tourist victims of crime We are the only country in Europe that
