    within the hospitals allocated budgetary funding This entails the preparation of timely and accurate financial information for Hospital Management and HSE South The department is actively involved in the day to day administrative business of the Group as well as providing supporting data to assist the strategic planning process The department consists of the following sections Costing Management accounting The department presents a suite of financial employment and activity reports in respect of the CUH Group of hospitals to the Senior Management team on a monthly basis This identifies actual performance against budget for the current period and on a cumulative year to date basis In addition to update on various cost control measures income generating Value for money initiatives it also contains projected forecasts that informs management in taking any necessary corrective action to remain within the budgeted allocation Finance is proactive in monitoring employment numbers as well as initiatives to manage attendance and reduce absenteeism The allocation and subsequent monitoring of individual departmental budgets is a priority for the section and the monthly reports are issued to each internal department The tracking of allocated funding and whole time employees is a top priority in ensuring that departments are accountable for the resources provided by HSE to deliver the agreed level of service Finance staff are constantly engaged with other departments in identifying categories of expenditure that could yield efficiencies and lower costs CUH Management attach a high priority to ensuring that the group is fully compliant with HSE policies and procedures statutory requirement and best accounting practice This requires an ongoing evaluation by the Finance department of the internal controls in operation throughout the hospital and reporting to management any weaknesses that come to light There is an onus on Finance to ensure CUH is fully compliant with prevailing National Financial regulations This requires close engagement with HSE Procurement who manage the purchasing inventory and accounts payable functions on behalf of CUH thus ensuring that any liabilities incurred on behalf of the hospital are properly in a timely manner The department is responsible for the development of the hospitals financial and costing systems incorporating the roll out of national HSE initiatives The preparation of the annual speciality costing exercise is also a key task for staff who work closely with the clinical coders in the HIPE department to maximise the hospital s CASEMIX funding The section is actively in validating costing data for inclusion in business case and other funding submissions made by departments to HSE and external agencies Finance department is a key participant with other departments in managing to HSE property and equipment purchased for CUH Staff actively participate in all major capital projects with specific involvement in the equipping commissioning and projected running costs of new facilities The department also prepare the annual list of minor capital projects for prioritisation by Executive Management Board and HSE Estates and oversee the disbursement of actual funding subsequently received Staff from CUH finance department are actively involved with
