    exploration of historical traditional experimental and improvisational performance practices An event organized by Doctoral School of Classical Music and Doctoral School of Music Education Jazz and Folk Music June 14 20 Performing Arts Research Centre programmed by doctoral researchers from the Theatre Academy Sami Henrik Haapala Tuuja Janicke Otso Kautto Simo Kellokumpo and Rania Khalil June 27 Exhibition Non exhibition stretched out An enquiry into ideas of expanded exhibitionary practices through artist led culture and the artist curator with Jason Bowman Valand Academy of Arts Gothenburg Julie Crawshaw Georgina Jackson GradCAM Toronto and invited guest speakers examine the divergent modes and assemblages that are generated in through for and by the field of artist led cultures June 28 Closing event of the first Research Pavilion with PARSE Journal To be in the place of Palestine to be in the place of India An experiment in curatorial memory and exhibition amnesia Marking the conclusion of the first Research Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale the PARSE Journal presents a reflection on the exhibitionary dynamics of place and emplacement in the orchestration of visibility in contemporary art During the entire exhibition period the Research Pavilion will also harbour a special reading room for topical publications in the field of artistic research GradCAM moves to new DIT Campus New Grangegorman Campus The Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media has now moved to the new DIT Grangegorman campus in Dublin 7 This new and exciting initiative will eventually house all the DIT campuses in one central location The Graduate School along with the Dublin School of Creative Arts and the School of Social Science Languages and Law have now moved from MountJoy Square to Grangegorman GradCAM hosts its traditional Thursday afternoon Epistemic Practice Seminars and all its seminars now at the new campus The seminars running for the 2015 are Aesthetics Typography Ireland Digital Studies with the IRI Centre Pompidou Enquiry and Memory and Culture If you wish to attend any of these seminars please contact the Dean noel fitzpatrick at dit ie The Graduate School also supports new PhD candidates who wish to apply for national or institutional funding and will be hosting PhD proposal writing workshops in 2015 The list of current Phd projects for funding is available here http www dit ie researchandenterprise graduateresearchschool phdopportunities phdprojects artstourism PhD Proposal Writing Workshop Wednesday 24th February 3pm NA003 Grangegorman GradCAM will be running a workshop session on PhD proposal writing on the Tuesday 24th February at the Grangegorman Campus from 3 5 00pm in room NA003 If you are thinking about or considering undertaking a PhD in the next year then this might be an opportunity to see what is required and demanded at least at the proposal stage We will be looking at some of the features of what any institution will be seeking in a proposal and discussing some of the upcoming funding opportunities available in a highly competitive sector As part of the workshop process we require a short

    survey of some of the world s writing systems and the concepts behind the miscellaneous graphemic structures used to visually represent languages Participants will be introduced to the process of multi script typeface design and font development and its challenges Jo will focus mainly on his experience in Latin Tibetan Mongolian Javanese and Bengali font projects All levels of experience in typeface design are welcome The price for the two day workshop is 150 euro Please email maryann bolger dit ie or bellclare gmail com to reserve a placeJo will also present a Typography Ireland seminar on Friday 24th October more details about this free talk will follow Dr Jo De Baerdemaeker is an independent Belgian typeface designer and researcher He holds a PhD in Typography Graphic Communication from the University of Reading and an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading His interests are designing researching and writing about world script typefaces particularly on Tibetan and Mongolian typefaces and multilingual typography He is elected board member and the ATypI Country Delegate for Belgium and currently teaches at the Department of Typography Graphic Communication University of Reading at LUCA School of Arts campus Sint Lukas Brussels at KASK

    This joint seminar GradCAM DIT ATRL TCD focuses on the questions that technology raises in relation to the construction of knowledge and the construction of aesthetics The main tenant of the seminar is that an understanding of technology is necessary within the context of the current crisis The premise of the seminar will be the development of an emerging field of study Digital Studies GradCAM As part of the Digital Studies Network founded in 2012 by the French Philosopher Bernard Stiegler and his research group at the IRI in Paris seeks to explore and make public new forms of enagagement and understandings of the impact a New Critic of Digital Technologies on our ability to attend the world The Digital Studies Networks starts out with an understanding that digital technologies as Pharmaka which have had a hugely negative impact on our modes of attention The project for 2014 seminar series held in Dublin will be follow the development of specific research areas and seminar at the IRI held in Paris for the Digital Studies network The ecology of attention categorisation new forms of writing editorialisation and digital reading Contact Néill O Dwyer neillodwyer at gmail com or Noel Fitzpatrick noel
