    NS 9 3 2016 Email forens ias eircom net www forens ie Tel 0449666181 Dear Parents Guardians As we approach the St Patrick s Day and our Easter holidays we have a few notices and announcements Ø Congratulations to second class who received their First Confession recently Thanks especially to Ms Healy for her preparation and to Ms Grall for her work with the choir Ø Proclamation Day is to be celebrated on March 15 th in all schools We invite all parents and friends to school at 1 20pm on Tuesday March 15 th to raise our National Flag and take part in our ceilí dancing and Irish singing Ø All classes have been studying 1916 in their history at their own level 4 th 5 th and 6 th classes have completed their project on different aspects of the 1916 Rising and this will be on display for Proclamation Day Ø 4 th 5 th and 6 th class attended Me Mollser in the Mullingar Arts Centre on March 4 th This play tells the story of Mollser who lived in a tenement in Dublin around the time of the Rising We also visited Abbott Laboratories in Longford for Engineer s Week it was a very enjoyable tour Ø This is Seachtain na Gaeilge so we are encouraging children in all classes to use cúpla focail during school and at home There will be a prize on Proclamation Day for the child who makes the best effort in each classroom Ø All classes celebrated World Book Day last week We will have another Reading Initiative after Easter Ø Easter Honda 50 Run donations of prizes suitable for hampers can be left in school by Friday this week Our thanks to parents who have already donated items Ø Congratulations

    Christmas 2013 Superstars Perform in Fore NS We had a packed house for both performances in our new room for this year s Christmas Concert All classes were terrific Dress Rehearsal J ack and the Beanstalk Congratulations to Credit Union Poster Winners Rainy Day Magic Sometimes rainy day lunchtimes can be very creative Well done boys Students design their own personal Christmas cards Every child in school designed and coloured their own Christmas card to send to family and friends Proud Artists Science Week 2013 In Fore NS Meet the Scientists Artist in Residence Teresa Doyle Puppet Making with 5th and 6th class Teresa Doyle worked with 5th and 6th classes for 6 weeks Each student designed and made their very own puppet It was a wonderful experience and Teresa was a very welcome visitor every Thursday Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football Local Schools Competition This year we congratulate our boys and girls gaelic football teams who won their group competitions On to the next round Halloween Fancy Dress The Most Terrifying EVER Friday October 25th before our Halloween break was a scary experience in Fore NS The costumes were the best we had ever seen Everyone had a brilliant day at the Halloween Dress Parade and enjoying all our traditional Halloween treats and games Fore NS Official Openin g of New Schoool Extension On Friday September 27th our new school extension was officially opened by Fr Michael Walsh PP Fore Collinstown Parish We were joined by our parents grandparents friends and specially invited guests from the community Fr Walsh celebrated mass and cut the ceremonial ribbon Orla Gallagher chairperson of the Parents Association unveiled the plaque to mark the special occasion Afterwards we enjoyed delicious refreshments served by the parents and students Belvedere Cross Country Inter Schools Competition Congratulations to all pupils who participated in this year s school event Well done especially to Megan D Arcy and Sam Carey who won medals Thanks to Ms Caffrey for training us and to all our parents who helped on the day Fore NS New School Extension Everyone is very excited about our new school extension Fr Walsh blessed the 2013 14 Fore NS 2013 14 Fore NS Pride of Place Garden On Saturday June 15th we created our Pride of Place Garden Over the past few weeks we have been busy working in our school garden and getting our window boxes ready for summer We needed our parents help to clear the garden by the car park and make a lovely viewing point We even have a seat so we can relax and enjoy the splendid view of The Ben of Fore from our school A Great Day s Work Well Done Everyone Senior Tour to Collin s Barracks and Dublin Zoo June 7th was the day of our senior tour and we had a wonderful day Thanks to all our parent volunteers who came with us Waiting outside Collin s Barracks Fun times at the Zoo Junior Tour Day to Causey Farm Junior and senior infants went to Causey Farm on their school tour The sun shone beautifully and the whole school waved them off at the school gates Sunny Day Sport s Day at Fore National School We had a wonderful Fun Day Sport s Day in school We were all divided into teams with a child from each class on each team The 6th class were our leaders for the day and 5th class assistant leaders Everyone enjoyed the day Thanks to our parents who provided much needed refreshments We ended the day with a Treasure Hunt Fore Village Clean up With the help of some very dedicated parents and teachers 5th and 6th class students held a village clean up We had a few rainy day starts before we eventually got a suitable day It was hard work but we didn t mind It is important to keep our beautiful village looking well Fore NS School Assembly We announced our Students of the Month for March at our school assembly We were also reminded by Ms Fanning to work very hard for our last term Our Students of the Month were forens ie And the most polite student was of course forens ie Confirmation Day for Sixth Class On Thursday April 11th 2013 sixth class received the sacrament of Confirmation in Coole They looked wonderful and they all had a fantastic day Some of the bun sale in Fore NS 6th class organise it each year as part of their Confirmation programme This year they donated the proceeds to The Aislinn Rehabilitation Centre for Teenagers in Co Kilkenny We     to teach us Zumba for 6 weeks We had so much fun Weaving with paper in Infants Autumn Hedgehogs We have learned lots about autumn We used pinecones from our nature table to make hedgehogs J unk Art During play time a different group every day gets to do Junk Art This is where we recycle almost anything and make whatever we want from it The children come up with great art ideas like robots spaceships and we have even had dragons and snakes Welcome to our new Junior Infants 2014 End of year 2013 2014 Art 3D Houses The infants learned about different types of houses In art we made 3D houses together out of recycled materials We were very busy builders and made 2 storeys bungalows semi detached and apartments Buddy Reading We made the most of the good weather we had in April and went outside for Buddy Reading with Ms Healy s class We really enjoy reading with them Maths Length The infants were learning about long and short things in our environment We worked together to see what things were longer and shorter than others These pictures show us measuring with links to see what items in the class were longest and shortest Science Magnets The infants had fun learning about magnets Here are pictures of us testing if things in our room were attracted to magnets or not We really enjoyed our pancakes on Pancake Tuesday Quacky Duck Junior and Senior Infants have a new buddy in our class Quacky named by the children Every week two children get to take Quacky home They write down and draw what adventures they got up to with Quacky in his diary and get to tell the whole class about it the next day The children are great at listening and asking good questions Valentine s Day Junior and Senior Infants were busy making love bugs for Valentine s Day We had to draw cut fold and stick to make them Weather The Infants have been learning about the weather and have been graphing the weather every morning We think that cloudy will be the most common type of weather We can also say our weather as gaeilge Ask us Cén sort aimsir atá inniú Science Week We had great fun with our science games for science week Have a look at the video for pictures of all our activities Halloween 2013 There were lots of very scary characters for Halloween Everyone put in a great effort Our World Book Day Dressing up was super fun for World Book Day We had lots of princesses in junior and senior infants And some scary characters too Read us a story We love when the older children come to read us stories We listen very well We make new big friends Junior and Senior Infants Scientists of the Future We love magnets February 2013 St VaIentine s Day Art 1st and 2nd cIass were very busy making Iove monsters

    to the life of the doer and armed with full previous knowledge of the risk involved The medal is in the form of a Celtic cross There are 5 panels on the face of the medal that depict the words The Scott Medal For Valour the eagle and the shield of the USA the harp and sunburst and the Garda Crest The reverse of the medal carries the inscription Garda Síochána na h Éireann The 4 outside panels are the arms of the four provinces of Ireland Ulster Munster Leinster and Connaught Confirmation Preparation 6th class were very busy preparing for their Confirmation We made a scrap book of all our work which explains what the Sacrament of Confirmation means to us December 2013 Visiting Newgrange 3rd 6th classes We had studied the Stong Age in class and were delighted to take a class trip to Knowth Newgrange Co Meath Ms Healy s Class Ms Fanning s Class Designing and Making our own Puppets Title How to Make Puppet Hands by 5th and 6th Class in Fore NS Goal Our goal is to make two puppet hands Materials Five broken clothes pegs makes ten fingers labels two labels 12cm by 6cm approximately six labels 2cm by 6cm approximately string 60 cm in length Method 1 Place four pegs on the sticky side of a large label to make a hand 2 Fold over sticky label on pegs and rub hard to make it stick properly 3 Place thumb peg on inside of hand and stick on with small label 4 Place string between two middle fingers pull down gently and glue to hand 5 Be sure to attach your name label to the string Artist in Residence Teresa Doyle showed us this method Village History Trail for 5th and 6th class On Friday September 13th we enjoyed a great morning around Fore village The first photo below shows the whole class on the steps of the columbarium where the monks kept pigeons Fore NS 2013 14 enjoyed her workshop on bees We learned all about bees and planted sunflowers in our home made newspaper pots Irish Aid Awards Our World Millennium Development Goals We learned all about living in Developing Countries when we worked on our Irish aid Awards project We also learned the 8 Millennium Development Goals This is our poem we made a video of all of us reciting it Our Millennium Day by Megan D Arcy and Molly Keating Read All About It We are all big book worms in Fore N S We just love getting our teeth into a good book Early in the first term each year Ms Caffrey organises that each class visits our local library in Castlepollard where we always receive a very warm welcome from Nicola Brennan Gavin and her staff This ensures we are all library members Last Thursday March 7th on World Book Day Fore N S was buzzing with excitement Coming to school was like leaping into a collection of books The whole school was alive with various characters from Toy Story s Woody the Boot Licken Cowboy to Dorothy from the magical Land of Oz In fact there was more than one Dorothy lurking about The junior infant girls were from a land of Far Far Away with Snow White and Bella battling it out on the playground to see who was fairest of them all Ms Trunchbull arrived with that dreadful smile on her face but when Jack Sparrow pulled out his dagger the smile disappeared very quickly Jodie came without her sister from My sister Jodie but survived the day Julius Caesar met his match on stage with Michael Collins and King Conor was ready for a fight too Elizabeth Bennett came dressed in her usual attire and talked with Tom Crean about the weather He was glad it wasn t snowing Where s Wally was found very quickly with the whole school looking for him well her But Cruella de Vil stole the show with her fabulous Dalmatian print fur coat Our Class Project on Mesopotamia During February 5th and 6th classes learned all about the ancient peoples of Mesopotamia This was a region of the world in modern day Iraq It was known as the fertile crescent Mesopotamia means the land between two rivers the River Euphrates and the River Tigris We had great fun making models of their temples their trading places called the Bazaar We also made clay models of their Gods and clay tablets with cuniform writing See our gallery page for more photos of all of us working on our projects Catholic School s week Grandparent s Day During Catholic School s week we invited our grandparents to Fore NS for a prayer service We made a special prayer place and read our stories and poems It was a very special day Catholic Schools Week 2013 Grandparent s day I could not decide who to write so I wrote about all of my grandparents I remember the time when I went

    Fore NS Parents Association This is just a brief note of what happened and was agreed at the meeting Monica joined the start of the meeting and outlined the important contribution that the PA makes to the school Thanks to the funds available from the PA children are able to participate in the wide range of extra curricular activities which makes school life much more interesting and fun In September 2015 the PA contributed 3561 which contributed to the cost of buses to GAA blitzes and other events Zumba classes trophies for Sports Day and Awards and tennis lessons among other activities In September 2016 a similar contribution is likely to be needed to cover GAA blitzes class trips to Trim Castle Mullingar Arts Centre possibly Newgrange and the Peace Proms A number of classes are currently involved in Mullingar Art Centre s Outreach programme Craft Education will also take place A number of laptops are likely to need to be replaced and it would be very much appreciated if the PA can contribute to this expense Orla Gallagher having served 6 six years on the Parents Association stepped down as Chairperson and a new committee was elected as follows Aisling Nolan Chairperson Miriam Dolan Treasurer Sharon McCormack Secretary Lorna McCormack will act as Assistant Chairperson and Dee O Brien as Assistant Treasurer There was a review of the PA accounts A copy of the accounts is available from Aisling Nolan Sile Darrach kindly offered to help set up a School Library and Sam Smyth to paint a mural on the boiler house in Springtime Help with the garden is also needed if anyone is green fingered Andy McKeon has volunteered to keep up the cross country training that he started in September and these sessions will run on Mondays
