  • Philip Sutcliffe Jr interview: 'I've never been in a bad fight in the National Stadium' - Fightstore Media
unforgiving world of boxing was always on the agenda for the junior welterweight He explained My Da was a two time Olympian twice bronze medallist and five time senior champion and all my uncles were senior champions so it was always in my family Being in your 20 s whilst fighting professionally is tough according to Sutcliffe as he revealed that he has lost friends because of sacrifices endured through the sport However he asserted that it is all worth it Sutcliffe Jr was inspired by Prince Naseem Hamed growing up His finesse and how he was able to punch with both hands was impressive he hit hard for a little guy he was a favourite of mine he said Asked about his aspirations for the year ahead Sutcliffe had this to say We were looking for more rounds on this show but obviously I m not MGM so they wouldn t give it After this we are looking at a WBC intercontinental title and hopefully the European title For those who haven t seen Sutcliffe perform before he described what fans at the Stadium or those watching on BoxNation can expect at the weekend in his six round contest He stated I can box fight both inside and outside I can stand toe to toe I change it up depending on whatever s happening on the night On the world scene Sutcliffe believes Amir Khan fighting Canelo Alvarez will result in a punishing night for the Englishman Khan is desperate for a big fight and Canelo is the wrong one I can t see him going past four rounds with Canelo Sutcliffe added We ended the interview by discussing what will be the outcome on Saturday night Sutcliffe confidently concluded I watched him Lepelley fight for his European title after he pulled out against me and I ve seen a few clips on Youtube He s fairly decent He has eighteen wins five losses and one draw He s only been stopped once But twice now come this Saturday Check out Philip Sutcliffe Jr on Facebook and Twitter MGM Presents Philip Sutcliffe Jr Rumble at the Roadstone Poster Share on Facebook Share Loading Share on Twitter Tweet Loading Share on Google Plus Share Loading Share on Reddit Share Loading Share on Pinterest Share Loading Share on Linkedin Share Loading Share on Digg Share Share on Delicious Share Loading Share on Stumbleupon Share Loading Share on Tumblr Share Share on Vkontakte Share Loading Share on Xing Share Share on Weibo Share Share on Buffer Share Loading Send email Mail Liam McInerney My obsession with the sweet science started after reading a Sugar Ray Robinson biography While being a student journalist in Dublin I became the boxing writer for Fightstore Media http fightstoredublin ie Post navigation Previous article MGM Presents Rumble at the Roadstone Club Fight Card Next article Clash of the Clans Press Conference Best bits in quotes Similar Articles Review Knock Out night of Boxing in National Stadium November

  • UFC ON FOX 18: Aftermath - Fightstore Media
Veterans I like many others felt that Rothwell s key to victory would be through using his famously heavy hands This however was not the case as Rothwell shocked the MMA world by submitting one of its most prestigious long time grapplers in Josh Barnett This was the first time Barnett had ever been submitted in Mixed Martial Arts competition The fight was relatively even on the feet in the first round with Barnett opening a cut on Rothwell s face When they tied up however it was very clear that Rothwell was the much larger of the two competitors and he used his strength effectively against a crafty Barnett Barnett initiated the grappling by shooting for a single leg takedown on Rothwell However Barnett left his neck exposed and Rothwell took full advantage securing a modified version of a guillotine choke his coach has labelled the gogo choke Rothwell used this choke to force Barnett to the ground making him tap instantly Submitting Barnett is a huge feather in Rothwell s cap and is arguably the biggest win of his career Official Result Ben Rothwell def Josh Barnett via submission gogo choke 2 nd 3 48 Jimmie Rivera Vs Iuri Alcantara In just his third bout in the UFC hometown hero Jimmie Rivera took on the highly experienced veteran Iuri Alcantara Alcantara has 33 victories under his belt including a knockout victory over former Featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas This made Alcantara Rivera s hardest test to date In an exciting three round fight Rivera was able to land the more significant shots and secured takedowns on several occasions Alcantara was successful at landing his left straight along with a multitude of kicks but it was not enough to deter the gritty and determined Rivera Rivera landed beautiful shots to the body and had Alcantara in trouble on several occasions This performance earned both competitors fight of the night bonuses This was easily the biggest win of Rivera s career Official Result Jimmie Rivera def Iuri Alcantara via unanimous decision Sage Northcutt Vs Bryan Barberena Coming in to this bout Sage Northcutt was not only the youngest fighter on the card but also the one with the most hype A product of Dana White s reality show Looking for a Fight all eyes were on Sage with many fans wanting him to succeed but even more salivating at the idea of him falling short As if that pressure wasn t enough Northcutt had a change of opponent less than two weeks out which forced him to move up a weight class to 170 pounds Northcutt had some success early in the bout tagging Barberena with his blitzing Karate style and securing some short lived takedowns However in the second round Sage threw a Capoeira style kick which resulted in him being on bottom under a more experienced grappler in Barberena who trains with Benson Henderson on a regular basis Barberena took over on top shutting down any of Northcutt

  • Sinead Kavanagh moves up to Featherweight for BAMMA 24 - Fightstore Media
her opinion of him I have a lot of respect for Conor I was over in Vegas with him last summer and he s a lovely bloke He thinks there s no one else like me and he s always saying that I m a great fighter He gives me a lot of confidence in myself every time I see him It s also great to learn from him in training and see how he moves I try to take all that in and make my own game better At BAMMA 22 she disposed of her opponent in a matter of seconds and announced her arrival in the women s bantamweight division She admitted that it had felt overdue and she knew that it was time to turn pro It also made history by becoming the first ever women s fight on BAMMA I only found out after the fight It was good to make history and it was absolutely brilliant It was an honour to be the first woman to fight on a BAMMA show and the fact that I done it in style was a plus for me Looking ahead to the future there is only one aim for Kavanagh The UFC is within her reach and she expects to be on their roster very soon I don t think there s anyone in the UFC Bantamweight division that has the knockout power which I have I ve four KO s on my record with SBG in amateur and pro There s no one on that roster who can do that so I think I d have a chance against any of them I want my shot to get in there and show them what I can do I d love to see myself in the UFC this year That s my goal and I hope I happens soon I just want to show what I can do one a world stage If there was a title in BAMMA I d also go for that too I d love a title shot in BAMMA They don t have a title yet so let s do that At UFC 197 Holly Holm will put her Bantamweight title on the line against Miesha Tate and Sinead gave her prediction for the fight Holly has it I don t think Miesha will know what to do with her I think Holly will keep making her come forward and she ll stay on the back foot She ll pick her off and that ll be it Finally Kavanagh spoke about her sponsorship with Fightstore PRO Ireland and reflected on their support It s been brilliant I m over the moon with it At my last fight I had no sponsorships and everyone else had some which was disappointing I m glad that they took me on board and they ve great gear They ve looked after me and arranged for Revgear to sponsor me for this fight Everything s been great and

  • Andy Young: The Next Gen Flyweight sets his sights on the BAMMA world title then a place in the UFC - Fightstore Media
can go towards that title fight I m just going to take it one fight at a time I know I have all the tools to do it He admitted that he feels a lot more comfortable at Flyweight compared to Bantamweight having fought in both weight classes The weight cut for me is fairly easy I recover and I m completely fine on fight day It sounds stupid but I actually enjoy going through the weight cut It feels like a small victory once you ve done it I love fighting at Flyweight and I feel like my opponents put on better fights with me at that weight class The guys are my size unlike at Bantamweight where they can be very tall and it makes it boring I have to chase them around the cage because they re staying away Flyweight is definitely the division I want to be at In the past few months Andy has been working hard to improve his training methods And now he s beginning to reap the rewards from this new approach to the fight game I m taking a lot more time to work on functional strength and movement kind of similar to Ido Portal movement which Conor McGregor likes to use There s a lot to that and I ve been taking a lot more time to recover my body I had a number of injuries last year so that gave me a wake up call I ve been a lot more sensible with my training and I ve noticed a lot better results from it I feel a lot stronger and fitter I ve given my body a lot more time to rest I also started to break down fights and I ve become much more strategic I also concentrated on my mental game to make sure my mind is in the perfect place and that showed in my last few fights The new outlook on training has also had an impact on different areas of his game Having come from a striking background he now admits that wrestling is what he enjoys the most I think I m built to be a wrestler I feel like I move very smoothly I d love to adopt the style of Dominic Cruz and I hope to show stuff like that in my next fight he said Being a part of Next Generation is very exciting for Andy The gym is renowned for producing some of the best fighters in Ireland and the UK The current crop of fighters are causing a lot of excitement within the MMA community and Andy gave us his thoughts on them The guys are doing phenomenal Rhys McKee and Mark Andrew are improving every day and I can definitely see them getting to the UFC in the next few years They re putting in a lot of work and the results are starting to show Conor Cooke is doing the right things by going to

  • UFC ON FOX 18: Barnett vs Rothwell - Fightstore Media
If the fight hits the canvas Barnett is sure to have a sizable advantage over Rothwell Rothwell is enjoying his first string of victories in the UFC since he entered the promotion in October of 2009 With stoppages over Brandon Vera Matt Mitrione and Alistair Overeem in his last three fights Rothwell is as confident in his abilities as ever Rothwell was scheduled to fight in November in the 3 arena in Dublin until an injury forced his opponent Stipe Miocic out of the competition Despite not being able to compete Big Ben was one of the four fighters at the fan Q A and he won over the Irish fans with his charisma and provided great comical relief With heavy hands and an iron chin Rothwell is a tall order for any Heavyweight on the feet with 20 of his 35 victories coming by way of knockout Look for Rothwell to land heavy shots if the fight should remain on the feet With the UFC s Heavyweight division being one of the thinnest divisions many of the top fighters are only one win away from a title shot With the number one contender Cain Velasquez struggling with consistent injuries the winner of this fight could emerge as the next contender Follow Josh Barnett Ben Rothwell and UFC on Twitter JoshLBarnett RothwellFighter ufc Leave a comment below and tell us who you think will win this fight Share on Facebook Share Loading Share on Twitter Tweet Loading Share on Google Plus Share Loading Share on Reddit Share Loading Share on Pinterest Share Loading Share on Linkedin Share Loading Share on Digg Share Share on Delicious Share Loading Share on Stumbleupon Share Loading Share on Tumblr Share Share on Vkontakte Share Loading Share on Xing Share Share on Weibo Share Share

  • Exclusive interview: Cian Cowley out to prove himself as a complete fighter on the 27th February - Fightstore Media
been quick to attack his lack of experience in Jiu Jitsu however this is not something which Cowley believes will be a problem for the fight I m rolling with best in the world every day in SBG The guys who I train with are at a way higher level than the level I ll be fighting at BAMMA Training with them each day and working with John has made my transition easier I m only in this a wet day and I m fighting already but John wouldn t have put me forward if he didn t think that I was ready I ll be ready to go on the 27th If it goes to the ground I m going to use my Jitsu and show everyone what I have to offer I m not just going to scramble and try to get back to my feet every time I want to show that I m a complete fighter Muay Thai isn t the only side to my game and I ll prove that on the night One of the main things that I want to prove is that I can mix it up and don t rely on my striking said Cowley Training alongside the likes of Conor McGregor and rolling with Gunnar Nelson has been hugely beneficial to Cowley He admitted that he s picked up a lot from sparring with McGregor and he s adapted to new styles There aren t many fighters in the UK and Ireland who could book their first MMA fight on a card at the 3 Arena but Cian admits that it suits him Everyone thought that my first fight would be in a GAA hall or a small venue I m delighted to have the opportunity to fight in the 3 Arena People wish to fight in it their whole career and I get to do it for my very first MMA fight I couldn t see myself fighting in a small venue I don t want to look arrogant but I think I m too big of a draw for anything smaller he said Since the announcement his fans have flooded social media with their support something which humbles Cian He s adamant that they ll make a lot of noise on the 27th February If anyone has ever been to any of my other fights they ll know that I always come in numbers I ve always had a big fan base There ll be a couple of hundred people in the arena and I ve been getting lots of new fans too Genuine MMA fans are beginning to support me on the journey so I ll probably have the whole arena behind me 2016 will be a big year for Cowley He wants to get a couple of fights under his belt and become known as an MMA fighter It s also a priority of his to achieve a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu After this fight
