    Support News Aladdin Software FAQ Recruitment Appointment Process Redeployment Panels Contracts of Employment Disciplinary Procedures Special Education Needs Special Units Manual Accommodation Leases Insurance Relevant Contracts Tax Buildings and Repairs School Support Policies Good Practice Templates Policies Child Protection Children First Garda Vetting Patronage Enrolment Patronage our Manual Use of Charity Number National Office Policies and Procedures Courses CPD For Teachers For Boards of Management Certificate Course Resources for Schools Toolkit for schools School Support Services School Support Services Appointment of fixed term temporary contracts 5 Mar 2010 Appointment of fixed term temporary contracts There has been a lot of discussion recently about the renewal of fixed term contracts and how this process should be organised The INTO CPSMA agreement advocates using a system of notional seniority to determine which fixed term teachers are offered a contract of employment for another year without an interview process The example given page 134 of the CPSMA handbook refers to a school that has had 3 fixed term teachers in this school year but which only requires 2 teachers for the following September The agreement suggests that schools establish a notional order of seniority between the fixed term teachers fixed term 1 fixed term 2 fixed term 3 etc This order could be determined by the dates the teachers were appointed to the school or in the circumstances where they were all appointed on the same day by how they performed at interview Similarly to the procedures that apply for permanent teachers of circular 02 04 Educate Together was not consulted or part of the process which resulted in the INTO CPSMA agreement on this issue As a result Educate Together schools are not bound by it Educate Together has sought legal advice on the issue and we have been assured that the
