    excluded and to facilitate the exchange of experience and information in achieving this The partners to PROMIS have completed three Transnational Exchange visits to date Munich in September 2002 Naples in May 2003 Bordeaux in November 2003 Dublin in April 2004 During each of the Exchanges delegates participated in conferences and seminars and had the opportunity to learn of and visit projects working with socially excluded groups in the respective cities Delegates also had an opportunity to exchange information on the labour market in their respective cities the profiling of project participants and approaches to developing formal and informal learning in the workplace three key issues being investigated by this transnational partnership Equal at Work hosted a PROMIS transnational exchange from 19th 21st April 2004 Over 20 delegates from Bordeaux Munich and Naples took part in this Exchange The agenda for this three day event was prepared in co operation with the transnational delegates and the four local sites of Equal at Work The event was a huge success feedback from delegates has been very positive and the agenda covered a wide range of issues thus ensuring that there was something for everyone on the programme Some examples of events organised include seminar on the Irish Governance the Labour Market and Equality Issues with presentations from Ursula Barry UCD and Carole Sullivan the Equality Authority discussion on competency based recruitment in the public sector visit to the Gateway Project and presentation on JobRotation as an effective labour market intervention The added value which PROMIS brought to Equal at Work was important to the work of the Project Not only were networks developed but having partners involved in both the employability and adaptability strands of EQUAL meant that partners were in a position to learn from and disseminate learning across two

    Belfast Area Partnerships the Department for Employment and Learning Belfast City Hospital Royal Hospital Futures Project NICVA and other organisations from the community voluntary public and private sectors These links were informal and centred around the exchange of information It was hoped that over time these links would be formalised and made sustainable In December 2002 a Joint Dublin Belfast Working Group was established to develop informal links based on the resources and timeframe available and to investigate approaches and funding sources to facilitate the exchange of information on employability issues The mission statement of this Working Group was To identify share and jointly promote good practice in the field of human resources with the aim of enabling equality of access to and progression in sustainable employment This Working Group met every three to four months until late 2003 to progress this activity However as the Project was unable to access funding to support activities under this dimension of the Project further meetings were suspended after this date During 2003 the Dublin Belfast Working Group undertook to prepare a catalogue of employability projects operated by working group members and to carry out a comparative analysis of equality legislation North and

    issues such as equality legislation training equality diversity awareness raising both ground specific and integrated packages proofing templates impact assessment guidelines equality reviews and equality policies for the workplace The menu is designed to facilitate people getting involved in areas that most interest them rather than having to be involved in all aspects Over the past 14 months the Working Group has been focusing on equality legislation training equality and diversity awareness in the workplace and equality reviews Arising from this the Working Group has developed an equality and diversity awareness training module Strengthening your Business which is designed to raise awareness levels among staff of equality and diversity issues in the workplace The module also makes the business case for encouraging and promoting diversity in the workplace As well as being available for download see below this tool is also available in hard copy and on CD This awareness raising tool is complimented by the equality training tool developed by the Dublin City Public Sector Site see Action Sites of Equal at Work This tool entitled Equality in the Workplace is a training module for entry level staff in public sector organisations in the application of the Irish equality legislation While specifically developed with public sector entry level staff in mind this tool is designed to be flexible and as such adaptable to the training needs of the private sector and community voluntary sector around equality legislation This tool is also available below for download Note for Alastair In above para person should be able to click on Action Sites of Equal at Work which is in brackets and go to that page Two partner organisations Exchange House Travellers Service and Dublin Port Company are currently finalising their respective equality reviews Upon their completion a comparative analysis report being
