    Prize Student Category 250 Large Company Recognition All entries will be showcased on Dublinked inspirations page Rules Important Dates The competition will open for entries from midday on Wednesday 19 th March 2014 and close at midday on Wednesday 7 th May 2014 Entries received after the closing date will not be eligible for prizes Winners announced week of 19 th May 2014 Who The competition is open to Irish residents or Companies a valid Irish address must be submitted with each entry Entries can be submitted by individuals groups or companies For group entries all entrants must reside in Ireland Groups may be formed for the purpose of the competition Entrants for the Ideas category can be individuals only Entrants for the Student category can be groups If entering as student group all entrants must be students Students to provide evidence of registration in recognised institutions Entrants can enter the design or idea category not both Companies with more than 10 employees are not eligible for monetary prizes There is no age limit but if entrants are under 18 please get permission of a parent or guardian before entering competition Entries received after midday on Wednesday 7 th May 2014 will not be counted in the competition Entry Criteria Entries must make use of at least one dataset from Dublinked http www dublinked ie Entrants can use online visualisation tools please outline tools used in submission visualisation includes graphical chart or map based visualisations Entries must be original and solely owned devised by the entrant s Entrants acknowledge that their entries may be used for promotion of the competition and Dublinked Innovation Network Applications may not use data that has any legal restrictions All copyright remains your own but by entering you give us permission to publish your work on the Dublinked of website and promotional material We will ask permission before doing so Entries may be rejected if in the view of the competition organisers they are illegal offensive defamatory or contain personal or private information Dublinked is not responsible for any costs damages or loss incurred by any entrant Static visualisations must either be published online or be submitted as an electronic image if submitted as an electronic image minimum resolution must be 640 pixels tall or wide maximum is 3000 pixels tall or wide Maximum file size is 4MBs Please send a link to larger files If submitting dynamic Videos Animations Interactives visualisations they must be published online please supply a link All visualisations published online must be available for access or download via the internet without cost at the date and time of entry and for the duration of the competition and then for a further 6 months after that How to Enter Submit Visualisation Entries may be submitted via email to dublinked nuim ie We will email confirmation of receipt of your entry Application entries must include the following information Name of Entrant s Company Address of Entrants s Company Email address of Entrant

    resources e g documents large amounts of data are retrieved from sensors mobile devices social network messages governmental applications or service networks In such a diversity of information answering the specific information needs of the city inhabitants requires a more holistic IR and data management techniques capable of harnessing different types of city data and turned it into actionable insights to answer the different queries of the people In fact existing local search engines such asGoogle Local Yahoo Local ask com s AskCity or CitySearch already take an initial step to answer some vital information needs such as What are the good places to eat in Dublin city center or Are there any kid friendly cafes in South Dublin However when it comes to answering more complex user information needs such as What are the traffic conditions on M50 motorway now or Is there a park with a skate ramp close to a shopping center in South Dublin the existing local search engines have certain limitations in terms of understanding these complex needs and also capturing the required information from different city data sources in response to them This tutorial will present the deep insights novel challenges opportunities and techniques to make city data queryable in three parts In the first part we will present what searching the city data actually means beyond the current approaches e g local search engines to answer the possible even complex information needs of the city inhabitants and how they differ from searching the Web or enterprise data In addition we will give examples of public and private sources of information available in different cities of the World today that are consumable by the information seekers In the second part of the tutorial we will present the requirements and techniques to manage and uplift
