  • Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club Sea Wall Update from CRA - Height to Be Reduced - Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club
    Monitoring Liaison Committee and the Public Engagement Forum had a further meeting with Dublin City Council DCC last Friday 11th March in an effort to reach agreement on the height of the sea wall opposite St Anne s Park DCC have now agreed that the height of the new wall opposite the Park can be cut by 300mm Per DCC this reduction should enable inbound drivers to see over the entire length of the wall and outbound drivers will be restricted for 75m The community groups were originally looking for a 600mm reduction We have revised that to a 450mm reduction We feel that a reduction at this level is necessary to ensure that the visual amenity is restored for all those not on the new cycle track or sea side footpath In essence there is now 15cm or 6 inches between DCC and the community groups We have asked DCC to look at bridging this gap by using demountable defences The Independent Expert report confirmed that demountable defences could work in this location DCC are going to cut a section of wall as an example of what the reduction of 300mm would look like We will be meeting with

    greatest challenges are probably closer to home We ve some of the finest sailing waters in the world breath taking scenery islands wildlife and hospitality The more I thought about it the more attractive the challenge became Being sailed under the tagline One Wild Ride the challenge has already received backing from a number of sources including the Irish Sailing Association Personal achievement aside the effort is to raise funds for ChildVision Ireland s only school dedicated to the education training of blind and visually impaired children With a start date in mid to late May weather permitting and with a total distance of over 1500km it s anticipated the journey will take up to 6 weeks No protection from the elements in such a small open boat means it s going to be a bumpy ride Imagine doing the ice bucket challenge day in day out for about 35 days 8 10 hours a day and you re close Changeable weather currents and sea conditions are the greatest threat throughout so Gary will be sailing the route clockwise beginning in Schull Co Cork The prevailing southwesterly winds should make sailing conditions safer all round in the bigger seas off the west coast and later when longer stretches of headwind are expected on the more sheltered east coast Sharing the experience is also a big focus point This is a unique opportunity to get people closer to the sport we re going to try to literally bring people on board via the video and photography feeds help them become part of the experience Everyone here at CYBC wishes him the very best of luck To learn more about how you can support and stay updated follow the links below VOLUNTEER Gary and the team are looking for qualified powerboat crew
