    is Corporate Social Responsibility CSR Corporate social responsibility CSR refers to companies taking responsibility for their impact on society It is a concept whereby enterprises integrate social and environmental concerns into their mainstream business operations on a voluntary basis CSR goes beyond compliance with legislative requirements It is a voluntary concept which is led by enterprise It is a process which maximises the creation of shared value through collaboration with all stakeholders and ensures that the interests of enterprises and the interests of wider society are mutually supportive Government can play a supporting role in encouraging sustainable business practices through a smart mix of voluntary policy measures and where necessary complementary regulation CSR is important for the sustainability competitiveness and innovation capability of enterprises and the economy It brings benefits for risk management cost savings access to capital customer relationships and human resource management CSR has been practised by companies large and small throughout Ireland for many years The breadth of CSR activity in Ireland is widespread and is recognised through programmes such as Business in the Community Ireland s Business Working Responsibly Mark and Chambers Ireland s Annual CSR Awards Site Map Home Ireland s National Plan on CSR

  • The National Plan on Corporate Social Responsibility - CSR Hub
    Good for Business Good for the Community was launched in April 2014 by the Minister for Jobs Enterprise Innovation Richard Bruton TD The vision set out in the Plan is that Ireland will be recognised as a Centre of Excellence for responsible and sustainable business practice through the adoption and implementation of best practice in CSR in enterprises and organisations as widely as possible This Plan sets out the general framework within which CSR operates in Ireland and outlines the key principles and objectives which underpin the Government s approach to CSR It also seeks to communicate a common understanding of CSR by outlining the Pillars on which CSR is based in Ireland The Pillars are Workplace Environment Marketplace Community and the Public Sector The National Plan explains how CSR can contribute positively to a company s business and highlights practical supports which are available to organisations that want to embark on or make improvements in this area This CSR Plan represents a milestone in raising the profile of CSR in Ireland A CSR Stakeholder Forum was established under the objectives of the Plan A key objective of the Forum is to raise awareness of the benefits of CSR to

    Responsibility Good for Business Good for the Community The Government established a Corporate Social Responsibility CSR Stakeholder Forum to drive the Plan s objectives inform further development of the CSR policy framework in Ireland and to ensure that the National Plan on CSR remains relevant to evolving international best practice and thinking The Stakeholder Forum brings together representatives of the business sector the public sector other key stakeholder and the wider community A list of the CSR Stakeholder Forum member organisations can be found here The role of the Stakeholder Forum is to assist with achieving the following objectives identified in the National Plan on CSR The objectives are as follows Increase awareness of CSR its value to businesses and to society as a whole Encourage enterprises to develop and implement CSR policies and practices and mainstream them into their core business operations Encourage more small and medium sized enterprises to build CSR capacity Increase transparency and reporting of CSR activity by enterprises operating in Ireland Anchor CSR principles in public bodies in the context of their own operations The Forum will also assist with the first formal review of the National Plan on CSR which is due to take

    CSR has become a critical part of how they do business as it is a core mechanism by which they can ensure their business is sustainable It can act as a risk management tool and aids transparency in particular through non financial reporting Sustainability reporting has become more and more commonplace for larger companies and the Non Financial Reporting Directive places an obligation on certain large companies to report on non financial information Many larger companies have dedicated CSR or Sustainability Managers and have a programme of CSR activities For larger companies starting on their CSR journey there is advice available from business representative organisations such as Chambers Ireland and IBEC who are members of the CSR Stakeholder Forum A key organisation that can help larger companies on their sustainability journey is Business in the Community Ireland BITCI BITCI is is a non profit body which organises a network of companies involved in CSR activities and operates the Business Working Responsibly quality mark The Mark provides comprehensive guidance for organisations on Corporate Social Responsibility BITCI also operate a number of individual schemes in which enterprises participate to support societal needs such as the EPIC programme and the Ready for Work
