    in the late 1960s Here he won an All Ireland medal with the senior team in 1971 In the early 1970s Nickey first came to prominence as a member of the Kilkenny minor hurling team winning a Leinster minor title in 1971 Three years later he won a Leinster U 21 title and went on to be part of an All Ireland winning team that defeated Waterford 1974 was a hugely successful year for Nickey as he also won his first Leinster and All Ireland senior titles with the Cats Over the course of his inter county hurling career with Kilkenny NIckey won three Leinster senior hurling titles 1974 1975 1978 and five All Ireland senior titles 1974 1975 1979 1982 1983 On retirement from hurling Brennan became involved in GAA management and administration In 1990 he managed the Kilkenny U 21 hurlers to All Ireland success over Tipperary In 1991 he commenced a four year term as Chairman of the Kilkenny County Board In 1995 he succeeded Ollie Walsh as manager of the Kilkenny senior hurling team In 2002 Nickey was elected Chairman of the Leinster Council prior to being elected to serve as President of the GAA for
