    Street Garda Station who will be issuing invitations again this year Following the success of the Community Christmas Waste Recycling last Christmas we are offering the service again this year details overleaf We will accept and compost your old Christmas trees and recycle old fairy lights and Christmas gift packaging so don t forget to hold on to these items and drop them off between January 3rd 19th I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who joined us at our Public Community Meetings this year They are an important forum at which we can update the community on news and events at the stadium and address any issues raised I have been delighted to chair these meetings and take soundings on issues within the community and would also like to thank representatives of the Gardaí and Dublin City Council who have joined us at these meetings The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 16th January 2012 An area we were keen to work on this year was Community Youth Outreach Initiatives We had 185 local young people join the Summer Community Cúl Camp in early July and 75 children join the midterm camp in early November in partnership with Scoil Uí Chonaill and Ballybough YouthProject We look forward to continued involvement in the coming year The number of local people employed at the stadium was increased with Fitzers Catering taking on an additional 81 locals for seasonal work A local recruitment drive will take place early in 2012 and details will be available onwww crokepark ie about community Our Community Liaison Officer Ger Dorgan has moved from holding advice clinics to going door to door in the area to meet and discuss any areas of concern with residents This local call campaign will continue in 2012

    attendance at the event Bloody Sunday November 21 1920 was an historic day for Ireland and for the Gaelic Athletic Association On that day events outside of the GAA brought politics into the heart of the Association when British troops opened fire during a challenge football match between Dublin and Tipperary in Croke Park Tim Pat Coogan one of Ireland s best known historical writers discussed these events which resulted in the deaths of 13 civilian spectators and one Tipperary footballer Michael Hogan Coogan s lecture also examined the activities of Michael Collins Squad who had assassinated 14 undercover British agents the previous evening Dr William Murphy lrish Studies lecturer in DCU also spoke at the event and explored the relationship of the GAA with the events unleashed by revolutionary nationalism in Ireland during the period 1914 1920 The GAA Museum also hosted two special Bloody Sunday commemorative guided tours at on Sunday last where visitors toured the stadium and museum which houses items such as an original match ticket and the whistle used by referee Mick Sammon The GAA museum also commissioned a new plaque to mark the 90th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday This plaque features pictures of both
