    A Global Phenomenon was open from June 2012 June 2014 The exhibition provided an overview of the history and development of the GAA overseas from 1884 to the present day It covered the worldwide GAA focusing on the Association s development in key regions Britain North America Australasia Asia Europe and Canada The exhibition included artefacts from the museum s own collection and material from the GAA Archive in addition to material from other institutions including Kerry County Museum Tralee and Lár na Páirce Thurles as well as items from various clubs and units overeas GAA President Liam O Neill pictured visiting the new exhibition which includes items from the 1888 Invasion Tour of the USA by GAA athletes The GAA has established a presence in Asia Australasia Europe and North America reflecting the importance of the games and the Association to many Irish emigrants The spread of these clubs and their respective histories also reveals much about the history of Irish emigration From hurling in Argentina to the emergence of GAA clubs in the Far East and Asia the development of the GAA abroad is closely linked to the social and economic developments at home With emigration yet again

    The exhibition was a great success and attracted many visitors during its one year tenure in Croke Park Items from this exhibition including Dermot Earley s medal collection Roscommon jersey and All Star Awards are now on permanent display in the museum s first floor Legends of the Game display The GAA Museum is dedicated to promoting an appreciation of the values culture and history of Gaelic games This includes honouring those who have made an outstanding contribution to the national game something which Dermot Earley certainly did throughout his long and distinguished GAA career as a player manager and mentor to young people The temporary exhibition at the GAA Museum was based on an exhibition developed by the Curragh Military Museum in County Kildare The primary focus of the exhibition was on Dermot Earley his playing days as a Gaelic footballer with Roscommon and Connacht and his rise through the military ranks to hold the highest office of Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces In addition to personal items that belonged to Dermot the exhibition also included Dermot s county and provincial jerseys match programmes imagery and footage of his playing and managerial career From his military career the exhibition featured a number of uniforms his medal collection and items that represented his military career including decommissioned weapons Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Críostóir Ó Cuana welcomed the launch of the Dermot Earley exhibition He said Dermot Earley was one of the most prolific GAA players of our time and he contributed enormously to Gaelic games in so many ways While he shone on and off the pitch his highly respected career in the Irish Defence Forces also deserves to be honoured and remembered The exhibition at the GAA Museum will pay respect to one of our greats

    of Irish emigration through the sport of boxing The exhibition was on display in Croke Park from Tuesday 18 May through Sunday 29 August 2010 The exhibition offered all visitors and boxing enthusiasts alike a unique glimpse at the role that prize fighting played in the history of Irish America and Ireland it featured an array of robes gloves boxing bags prints photographs paintings and film footage of Celtic prizefighters from 1820 to the present day Intriguing objects on display included pieces from sporting greats such as John L Sullivan Jack Dempsey Gene Tunney Barry McGuigan Freddie Gilroy Bobby Cassidy Gerry Cooney Wayne McCullough Billy Conn John Duddy Bernard Dunne and many more The exhibition included the Olympic medals won by Michael Carruth Kenny Egan and Wayne McCullough as well as the European and World Medals won by Katie Taylor Perhaps the most unique item in the exhibition was the late great Irish fighter Dan Donnelly s mummified right arm Actor Liam Neeson Honorary Chair and long time supporter of the Irish Arts Center also loaned personal items from his amateur boxing career to the exhibit including the gloves given to him by Olympic boxer Freddie Gilroy Given the connection
