    times can be attributed to the varying needs these audio forms fulfil for consumers Where radio helps people stay informed gives new opinions or ideas something to talk about and broadens horizons amongst other things other audio helps people add atmosphere provides an escape distraction and lifts their mood provides company One thing is for sure which is that overall audio listening occasions have increased as consumers incorporate radio listening music streaming their own music collections and podcasts into their days The latest JNLR data release contains increasingly rich levels of insight into the broader media habits of radio listeners especially around streaming Using the three month figures July Sept 2015 we see that 23 of adults use an audio streaming service rising to 30 of both Today FM and Newstalk listeners Looking at the areas relating to audio streaming podcast listening we see that Newstalk listeners are significantly more likely than average to listen back via a site player or podcast While the percentages are still small for those who have subscribed to or paid for a radio podcast the trend indicates that those who listen to radio are more likely than average to subscribe to pay for a radio podcast TGI tells us 20 of Irish adults listen to streaming service rising to 25 of Today FM listeners and 23 of Newstalk listeners Spotify is according to TGI used by 12 of the population or 419 000 people According to an Irish Times article from February 2015 by last Christmas the number of Irish users of the site s free service stood at 250 000 According to the article this number accounts for 80 of the total users in Ireland bringing the number of users to the 300 000 mark 17 of Today FM listeners and 18 of
